You don't even need that much money to eat healthy.

Eat only whole foods (fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, eggs, nuts) and stay away from processed foods (cereals, doughnuts, pizza, hamburgers, sausages).

Yep, I do this already. :) If it wasn't so hot I would grow my own veggies. Unfortunately most people here are stupid about food. I know people who think eating two chicken breasts is "healthy" and better for you than a burger. :bonk:

It could be depending upon how each is prepared.

That is true. However, one serving of chicken should be about half a breast. I think this is a major problem with obesity, it isn't just what people eat but the portion size too. We really don't need lots of food to survive!

Half a piece of chicken is enough? For what, a mouse? Be active and eat what you like with moderation and within reason.

Yet Misssissippi has the highest rate of obesity. Go figure.

Vermont and Colorado in the lowest rank of people getting access to food have the lowest rates of obesity.

So I guess a 24 oz T-bone is out of the question?

They buy those with food stamps

In what alternate universe are those foods cheaper than the dollar menu? Because I want to go to there.

Cheap eggs are gross, and inhumane. For 3x the cost I can get humane eggs that actually taste good, but they dont come cheap. I always buy nuts in bulk, but organic California almonds are not inexpensive either. Yes, one can buy almonds probably grown in China with its own special blend of toxic heavy metals and carcinogens. But really? I don't want them.

I work a schedule that allows me to be home with my children a lot, and carefully shop for and prep my own food. I miss out on a lot of potential income to be able to do that instead. Not everyone can spend their time doing that rather than earning income though.

Additionally, the size of chicken breasts I see at most grocery stores are positively enormous. They're gargantuan. I buy hormone free chicken at the halal shop, and they are dwarfed by those other beastly chickens. But it's not that they're small, they're just normal chickens. But a lot of people have forgotten what regular size chickens look like anymore.
