I would think the greencard already did that. I assume you mean the "valid to work only with DHS authorization". That is still true, you are only valid to work with that, but you now have that authorization in the form of a greencard.

Yes you just need to go to the SSA office take your Greencard with you and they will arrange for a new SSN card to be mailed to you.. without the restriction on it....

Give it some time, I went Friday to order a new card without the disclaimer and my GC wasn't in the SAVE system yet, you can see from my timeline when I received approval and the card itself. The clerk still ordered me a new card that will 'hopefully' come without the disclaimer although she couldn't guarantee it.

In your case James should have been able to get the SS card before EAD, if the social security office gave you the run around, then they them selves were misinformed and not paying attention to the Social Security department directives.

1. Aliens Work Authorized Without Specific INS Authorization

K-1 Fiance(e) of U.S. citizen.

Many K-1 visa holders need a social security card is some states to marry, so the social security office issued a directive to issues cards to K-1 holders without EAD, the card will have "Not work authorized" printed on it.

why would he be happy to keep a card that has an condition on it that is no longer true???

It takes all of 5 mins to file for a new one... I would not want to have to show a SSN card to anyone that had a restriction on it that is no longer needed.... because then you have to explain that you dont need an EAD as you are a greencard holder and so on... I would much rather have an unrestricted one and less questions...

It's probably different for a U.S.C. (me), but I've never in all my life had to present my SSA card to an employer. They only want to know the number. So unless they ask to see it, how will they know?

At my SSA office, you have to wait at least 2 to 3 hours to see someone about SSN issues. We've been there 2 times (once to apply for the card and then again to change her name to her married name) and it's always bad. Maybe we should try another office?

They most certainly gave us the run around and will be getting an earful when we go in with his EAD to get his SSN.

Without the legend, and with a valid photo ID, the SS card becomes an employment ID document (see form I-9). There may be times when one would rather not use their Green Card as a piece of ID to get hired at a job.

If the green card gets lost, this is another backup employment document.
