Which takes the least amount of time to get, a visitor visa for 90 days or a Fiancee Visa? And how long is the fiancee visa for, still only 90 days? Or is it for a longer period.

Different visas for different purposes.

Visitor = Just to visit and travel

Fiance = To come to the US and get married

Which kind of visa are you looking for?

What are you wanting to do?

It sounds like you want to get married...?

The fiancee visa is to come to the USA with the intent to marry and stay, and get married within 90 days. It isn't to visit.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

I hope I'm giving this reply in the right place on the form.... I'm trying to figure out whether it's easier for my girlfriend in Colombia to get a visitor visa to visit me and explore USA. I have been in Colombia 3 times and am also deciding whether I want to live in her country or she in USA. We are not ready to make a final decision about marriage, but if the fiancee visa is only for the same amount of time as the visitor visa, it sounds like the visitor visa would be better. The main purpose was for her to visit the USA so we can compare where we want to live. I can get a pension visa for Colombia without committing to marriage. I probably confused you, but I guess that is why I am on the forum, to help me find answers to puzzling questions I have.

Then she needs to apply for a visitors visa. If you aren't planning on getting married then the fiancee visa isn't for you. That 90 days you are speaking of, is for the planning and getting married. You have 90 days from entry to accomplish that. It is not intended for coming here to have a look around.

If the intention is to come to the US and travel and have a good time with you, she would need to apply for a visitors visa (B2). The fiance(e) visa (K1) is granted to those who plan to marry in the US and remain in the country (so that wouldn't work for you).

It's not a matter of how fast one is from the other.... it's simply that they are meat to be for completely different things.

A tourist visa can be obtained (providing the approval of the US Embassy) in a matter of days (depending on the country where it's being requested) ... a fiance(e) visa carries the commitment of the wedding and it takes between 5 to 10 months average.

That's country specific, so you may want to visit this other part of the forum http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/96-mexico-latin-%26-south-america/ where the regional discussions go on. I'm sure someone from Colombia will be able to give you more accurate information. good.gif
