My husband and I want to take a trip to the Bahamas for my birthday. We are currently filing the I-130 and waiting on NOA2 (may 2012 filer) my husband is a Jamaican national and will be traveling from Jamaica to go to the Bahamas. Unfortunately there's a 5 hr layover in the united states which requires a transit visa. Are transit visas hard to get and does it affect our current filing. FYI he doesn't need visa to go Bahamas .

He will be hard press to get a transit visa. Why isn't he taking the hop straight from JA to the Bahamas? It is much cheaper. You are correct in saying he doesn't ned a visa to go to the Bahamas, but they will question him extensive at the Bahamas POE.

When he can fly direct, what's the point.

Same issues as with a B2. In fact you might as well apply for a B2. Not even sure they issue separate Transit Visa's anymore.

The burden for a transit visa is exactly the same as the burden for a tourist visa. So it is doubtful with a pending I-130 and the fact that you can easily fly direct only makes the situation look more suspicious to an Embassy Official. The Transit visa would cost $140.00 so are you saving that much money by flying through USA?

We have the money for the transit visa, the dates we want to go there aren't any direct flights for the departure flight. It's actually cheaper to transit to us.

Well in cases you don't get a transit visa, I would check here; https://caribbean.sita.aero/itd/itd/Home
