Again you are bringing up battles from the past, which have NOTHING to do with modern warfare. I've stated before I have no doubt in the commitment by VN people to defend their homeland. You mention the US can't defeat Iraq or Afghanistan alone, which is certainly not the case. The US could easily level those places and kill everyone in sight, but we choose to follow international law and human rights. It is how we "are". We fight for freedom, but thinking we can't do it unilaterally is not being realistic. We certainly can, but wisely choose not to. Can the same be said for China?

Consider this very viable scenario: China places an embargo on VN, stops selling electrical power to you, stops all incoming shipments(which include the arms you are getting), claims rights to open seas in the area and enforces it. They have not invaded VN at all, but now have a stranglehold on your country and economy. You don't have the navy to fight it, and the world will certainly complain, but that doesn't mean they will send troops! After a year or two of this, which devastates your economy, they have built up a sizable ground force on your northern border.....and they find an "excuse" to invade, such as to keep the peace since the starving viets are protesting. They petition the world court saying they don't want a fight and only want to restore peace. They have no intention of permanently occupying VN and will leave once peace is restored. The world hopes for the best and does nothing. NOW China has control of VN without firing a shot and the likelyhood of the US having to invade a well entrenched Chinese army makes the proposition extremely expensive in both money and lives. Do you think in this economy and political climate the US gov would take on such a challenge, just to free one communist country from the grasp of another communist country? Do you think the US public would back such an ordeal into a country we already tried to save before, but were fought by the very people we tried to free?

Well, if it's this simple why haven't they done so already? Cuz they nice guys?

You can't really judge something based on what you learned from textbook or heard from the news. There are alot of stories were forgotten and modified. Do you think in the future, the textbook in the US history is going to say, "United States fight in the Iraq for oil?"

China already made the silly move......

It is a big mistake that China made by drawing the 9 dashes map covering 80% of all the EAST SEA. By making this move, China have already made a mistake. There are some power splitting up in Chinese government between the politicians and between the politicians and military leaders and what they are trying to do is to take away the attention of the problems happening inside of China so that there wouldn't be some uprising in their country. Pay attention to China economy and politics lately and you'll see what problems they are facing. Instead of trying to solve their internal problems, they wrongfully making silly moves by trying to take over all the sea in Southeast Asia.

I think we should solve own economic crisis before looking into others'. For political part, I hate the decisions made by the US government also, not all, but alot. Anyway, we should find a way to promote peace, not exaggerating the fear and threat.

china will just push things to the border line. it is already predicted that vietnam isn't violent enough to tout china as china touts vietnam. there isn't going to be a war because america's too broke and china is too smart.

if vietnam wants to step up to the game, vietnam needs to play ####### for tat with china.

im not a war monger. but this is a good time to weaken china internally if vietnam incite war with china. united states would simply observe. this would draw much of china's troops to vietnam border thus weakening military efforts on the northwestern front. the mongols would have a chance to revolt. there is a possible chance that civil rights would revolt too. this would be a true test for china's might.

Personally I hope the 'might of china' fails and I tell you why. I hope that civil rights will revolt and win while everything else is going on. I've heard enough stories of people enduring atrocities as if it was normal because there's not enough framework to protect them. Enough is enough. Sure it's competitive to make a lot of goods and sell it for cheap, but at what cost? Then again what do I know about it.

I know the USA will just observe because it's in their best interest to wait and see how it plays out. I think they would eventually step in though. I've heard many people talking about an eventual war between the USA and China, and it sounds plausible, eventually.

If there were a war between the USA and China, who would manufacture our happy meals?

Xin chao :) I'm not defending China at all and truly love my experiences with the viet public, but a reality check is in order. Without the backing of the worldwide community, there is little you can do to stop the absolutely massive and well armed Chinese. If you were indeed faced with the total might of the Chinese, without worldwide intervention, you will be occupied without a doubt. I'm talking military logistics, armament, and capability, not what is "right". The entirety of the viet forces would be little more than a speed bump to China's massive, well trained, well armed ground forces.

I do not doubt the commitment and will to fight of the noble Vietnamese, and I'd gladly stand in arms with you, but to infer you would do anything more than be overrun and die quickly is a dream. Fortunately the international community will not allow such aggression from China.

in the land of the viet , wars happend all the time . it is true that middle kingdom want to rule the world again and we have bad luck to be living right next to them , but fear not , as soon as we got some nuke we will nuke em back to stone age lol, now only if the vietnammese goverment at home hurry up and get all those nucleus electrical powerplans that they been talking a bout in the fast few years buid we will be ok. the internal community

will not do anythings to the chinese because they dont have anymoney to do anythings lol.it is up to us to fight for our land now ,as alway.
