This is a question from my friend who will be having an interview next week. The joint sponsor is making 32k usd per year but he has 3 kids. Do u think in ITR she claims the 3 kids as her dependents? If that is the case, the household counts will be 5 right? including the joint sponsor herself and the intending immigrant. So the 32k usd per year will not be enough income.. what other remedies to higher the income?can they add houses or assets in i-864?

Thank you very much!

Bank accounts would work, they need to be 3 times the amount needed. So if you have a need for $5000 more a year you would need $15000 in the bank. The house they live in can't really count because it would be a hardship to sell their primary residence. A secondary residence might count.

technically you might meet the boderline with $ 1762 but its always good to be in well above the poverty line. I believe, when it comes to Joint Sponsor its 5x...

hope some other Vj will go in depth.....

5x is correct for a joint sponsor. That means it takes $5 in liquid assets to make up for $1 in income shortfall. However, just barely meeting the minimum requirement (particularly for a joint sponsor) is far from an assurance of success. A few thousand in cash is not really going to be considered "available" to support the immigrant. It will look more like the family is simply "barely solvent". Best to be well over the minimum.
