Lala you had an interview and the adjudicator didn't make the decision in that day, it seems after reviewing your case she decided to deny. There are numerous scenarios for I-485 denials such as fraud, misrepresentation, not enough proof of the relationship, not enough proof of co-mingling, criminal record, suspicion of a fake relationship etc. When you get the decision notice you will have 30 days to appeal, if your decision can be appealed, or you may file a motion to reconsider. Keep in mind the 30 days is from the date of the decision and not the date the decision was received ok!!!!

You can read a bit in the USCIS web site about motion and appeal.

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=343df95c93228210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

Do not panic. In a worst case scenario if USCIS start with your removal proceedings you can have your case reviewed by an Immigration Judge. They won't start with your removal if you have an appeal or motion pending. You will be ok.

My first AOS application was denied too (they couldn't find my medical exam papers), I had to reapply. I refilled the AOS application and had to pay the fees again, but it went through ok the second time around and I had no problems. I considered Motion To Reopen, but at the time (about 6 years ago...) was adviced it will be easier and faster processing if I would just submit another AOS application. I'm not sure what would be faster nowadays. Make an infopass appointment and see what they advice for you to do. I was very upset when it happened and scared, but it wasn't the end of the world and everything turned out ok. Don't panic, wait for the letter which will state the reasons for denial, and go for an infopass appointment as soon as you can for an advice on how to proceed.

I decided to call USCIS and off course they didn't have much to share but they put in a Service Request. She explained me that the service request doesn't mean that I'll have more time for my appeal/motion to reconsider.

So if it takes another week before I receive the denial notice, I'll only have a week time to reopen or motion the decision. I don't think that's fair.....

With all due respect, there are always ways to verify identify-- banks and the SSA do this on a daily basis. Now the question is weather or not the person at the "window" who is supplying the data information is really the person and just didn't dig through the trash-- unfortunately there is no security for this other than photo ID-- but asking for this ID for every transaction would likely grind a country of a billion people to a halt.

It is more likely that the tier one person on on the phone-line isn't privy to such information. If you really need need to know, ask to speak to a tier 2 or 3 person.

I'm a FA with a major bank, certain things are not done by phone.. certain things will not be done via the telephone. I can list 10 tings. notice i said for privacy reasons the info will not be released. What good would it be , if an motion is to be filed the original would be necessary. Anyone would have someone's info and claim to be someone else, in person this is harder to go over with the person verifying a piece of gov't issued ID.

It is all down to policy and often times even the person making the decision.

I have:

- Called into my bank

- Utility companies

- work- 401K/HSA

-USCIS

and only supplied "data" which anyone who knew me would have had, and still managed to get the information that I was seeking.

I am sorry-- but the only real proof is by the person standing in front of them, with a govt photo ID, stating the answers to the questions.

But its' not end of the world. You have options:

a. File again

b. Appeal

c. Motion to re-open
