Some things to remember, if you have problems:

1. IF you have problems, don't wait after the required period. CALL your Congressman.

2. When you call your congressman (or visit their office), bring *every* document you have. The more information they have, the faster the results will be.

3. Don't even BOTHER to make a complaint through DHS/INS/ICE (whatever the incompetant fools want to call themselves this week). They'll make a case number, promise to have an answer for you within 30 days... And you'll never hear from them again.:bonk:

4. Be patient, but be FIRM. Have all of your documents in order, and stay focused. Do NOT let emotion get in the way of your discussions with your Congressman.

5. DO NOT GIVE UP.

Good luck to you all.

Good Points to remember. Thank you and congratulations

Thanks, everybody...

Yeah, I still need to go back to the congressman's office, with a couple of bottles of wine, and some candy... While they're the polar opposite of me on every political issue, they STILL did a great amount of work for me, and for this, I'm very grateful.

One thing to note- I'd called the DHS hotline, I don't know... 7 or 8 times??? Each time, they made a case number, told me to call back if I'd not heard from them after thirty days. Of course, they never called back (sometimes, they'd send a letter saying, "yeah, we know you've got problems, we're looking at them"), so when I called back after 30 days, they'd make a NEW case number, and the cycle would continue.

Whatever you do, NEVER make the mistake of thinking that they'll actually DO anything.

The only time they move, is when your boot-heel is on the nape of their NECKS. Then, and ONLY then, will something actually occur... And of course, the only way to put pressure on them, is through your elected representative.

If everything goes smoothly, then COOL... and be grateful. But if not??? Then be determined.

Someone else was asking about the K-1 visa, and the necessity of using a lawyer. From my experiences with Holmes and Lolly, you're better to take that $2000 (or whatever they're ripping-off people for, nowadays), and simply throw it in the toilet... Because when it really matters, when you really need help??? You can FORGET getting any real assistance from them. You're on your own.

Forgive me if I sound a little bitter about this... Writing some of my thoughts down, and remembering what we went through, brings back a lot of anger and disgust... As a military vet, I've always believed that, if you play by the rules and do as asked, you will eventually get what you need. It may not happen quickly, but it WILL happen.

Now, I feel very differently. My wife has a very poor opinion of our government, and most Americans who are stupid-enough to follow the government rules (she thinks I'm hugely niave because of this, and I can't fault her logic).

We felt as if WE were criminals, doing something wrong, when there are ILLEGAL aliens working all around us, with no fear of reprisal...

Anyway, it's almost over... And that's what matters...

Whatever you do, NEVER make the mistake of thinking that they'll actually DO anything.

And that's what it all boils down to really!

Don't wait on them to get up off their arses to do something, they need to be tipped out of their chairs in order to wake up. As soon as anything goes wrong with your file, call your Congressperson, or your Senators and have them work on it. That's about the only way to get them to do anything it seems.

Sooner or later, if enough Congress reps and Senators get pissed off with having to deal with USCIS, maybe some changes will be made in the process.

Its doubtful of course. But we can dream.
