Hi everyone,

I hope this is not a silly question. :P

I live in Ontario, and my partner is in Michigan. I've met him in person twice so far.

In preparing evidence for our visa interview in the future, will NOT have passport stamps to show that we've met hinder us? Should I ask for a stamp when I go visit next time? I've read that our passports don't get stamped upon crossing the border... will they be willing to stamp it if requested? And if so, would they do it each time I request a stamp? Or are passport stamps not very necessary in our case?

Thank you for your help!

Passport stamps aren't necessary, per se, and it is rare that a Canadian will get a stamp, espeically if crossing at a land bridge

now, you do have to prove that you've met in the last 2 years, what else do you have? Hotel receipts?

If you don't have any other proof (pictures aren't good proof) then ask next time you cross to have them stamp your passport, if asked why, tell them the truth

Good luck

Save receipts while you are down there or he is up here or your credit card bills showing you were down in the US that type of thing.

Ticket stubs for events you go to together.

Get lots of pictures of you guys together in different locations, wearing different clothes in different types of weather. It'll show a time lapse type thing.

Thank you for all your help!! It is much appreciated. Yes, we are just thinking ahead about getting evidence for the fiance visa interview :)

Just an FYI - the evidence of meeting is required when you file the petition, additional evidence can be presented at the interview in either Montreal or Vancouver

Good luck

One potential problem with asking them to stamp your passport is this. They might ask 'why'. And if you then tell them, oh, we have a K1 petition, they might very well deny you entry into the US. They can and apparently often do if they know you are engaged to an American.

In this case, better to rely on secondary evidence. I admit, it's a lot easier for people flying overseas for the K1, they have flights, passport stamps, etc...

You'll have to get creative and get as much as you can.

But I would also think, to a large degree, Canada must be about the easiest place to do the K1 from. I mean, since Canadians can already come and go nearly as they please, not so much reason for a fraudulent petition from a Canadian...

Honestly, I've asked for stamps before and simply answered "just becuase I want stamps in my passpot". Largely it depends on the border agent but by land they are pretty relaxed

Good luck
