Hello All,

In preparation for my husband getting his visa, I wanted to know if it is possible for him to transit through the states en route to another country once meeting with immigration officials at the POE?

Long story short, I am currently on temporary assignment in another country, not the US and not my husband's country. My assignment will not end by the time I estimate that he will get his visa (Sept/Oct). I would like him to come and stay with my at my post until my assignment ends in November. At that time, we will return to the States together. He will most likely have to transit through the US to get to where I am, and I'm wondering if he takes another international flight out on the same day (or next day) after doing the POE immigration meeting will there be any adverse affects? Also, will he be able to re-enter the US in November with only the "green card" stamp in his passport and not the actual green card?

Best,

Mbiyemo

Yes, he can use the stamp in his passport as temp greencard, so the travel itself will not be an issue. When you you estimate him travelling? I ask because if he only stays in the USA a day, then spends 5-ish months abroad, they may not like that as he has not established residency. Additionally, he will need a visa to travel to whichever country you are in.

Thanks for your reply. He actually can't transit through Canada, but maybe able to transit through France. I might have to look into that option.

Thanks for your reply. That makes sense about him spending 5 months outside. I don't think he'll do that because we'll be back in the US approximately one month of him getting his visa. He does not need a visa to come to the country I am in.
