Hi everyone,

Thanks for the great info everyone posted in this blog!

I'm sending this because I got married after a week I was in US as a visitor (ESTA), but my relationship with my wife (at the time girlfriend) lasts over 5y so far. I'm going to send this letter together with my I-130 (and all docs to obtain the green card) in order to proof that the sudden decision of my marriage and the reason why it took place so fast were taken.

All these statements in the letter are true and nothing was made up. We also have everything to proof such statements.

To USCIS,

Subject: Motivation for sudden marriage and proof documentation

I, (sponsor), decided to get married to ..(beneficiary).. on May 10th, 2012, just two days before the wedding ceremony. On May 5th, 2012, .(beneficiary). came to visit me with the intentions of leaving on May 23th, 2012. However, we have been maintaining our long-distance relationship for almost 5 years at the time, and it was devastating and frustrating knowing that he was leaving in less than 3 weeks. Since I was/am in the middle of opening a small business and I knew I wouldn’t be able to visit him for another year or two, it was extremely difficult dealing with our parting.

In order for us to be together and maintain our relationship, the only solution was to get married. As a committed couple, it was actually an easy decision. We booked our appointment for Marriage License and Civil/Commitment Ceremony at the xx City Hall for May 12th, 2012, just in time for my father, (name of father), to be there and celebrate with us. He was flying back to (foreign nation..) for a business trip on May 14th, 2012 and I wanted to share my special moment with my father before he took off.

Attached are:

⁃ Booking reservation of ...(father)

⁃ Boarding pass of ...(father)

⁃ Reservation of marriage license (..showing reservation 2 days before marriage)

⁃ Reservation Civil/commitment ceremony (..showing reservation 2 days before marriage)

- Photo of beneficiary, petitioner and father of petitione at the wedding

I hope this letter explains the sudden decision we had to make in order for us to maintain our relationship and move on to the next stage of life.

Thank you.

I'm not sure if I should explain this now or later at the interview. What do you think? should i send this letter?

Moreover, is the sentence "In order for us to be together and maintain our relationship, the only solution was to get married" apropriate? Can the immigration misinterpret this statement, thinking that we did it only for the green card? I'm just a little bit scare..!

Thank you!

You're back in your country now right? Then, there should be no problem that you guys get married in a quick manner.

I recommend to include the letter with your I-130 packet. Also, ask your family and friends to write letters that prove your bonafide marridge or in this case relationship.

Good luck!

OP,

The following sentence doesn't make sense. How exactly do you get married before the wedding? Did you mean a civil marriage before the wedding ceremony? How come there was a wedding ceremony if this was a sudden marriage?

"I, (sponsor), decided to get married to ..(beneficiary).. on May 10th, 2012, just two days before the wedding ceremony.?

Your spouse was visting you and now he has left for his country awaiting the visa? If so, there are no issues. If he is still here, there will be issues.

I'm not sure what you are worried about here (why you are writing this letter). Are you worried that marriage during a Visa Waiver stay will somehow invalidate immigration eligibility? As sms78 noted, there's no problem as long as you're not overstaying the VWP. Are you hoping to spur the process along? Although I (and all of us) empathize with your desire to be together, they don't care. You may be able to make the case for an expedite through your congressman, however.
