The way I see it, being an elected representative is not that attractive, expecially with the way things are today. The pay's not really that great, and you have to spend a lot of time raising money just to get re-elected.

It's attracting some real winners...that's for sure.

Most of the people running for president, congressperson etc. are already what most people would consider rich. The "side benefits" (power and influence) are worth far more $$$ than the "base salary"...
