Saw a recent post about a failing K-1 visa and I am wondering who is responsible to pay for return expenses. It was my experience that round trip tickets were cheaper than one way anyway. And what happens if petitioner refuses and immigrant has no money ?

The person would need to contact their embassy if they had no way home. That or a charitable organization may be able to help them return home in some cases.

Wouldn't you have thought that this would be something that was worked out before coming to the US. What is being talked about durning those many hours of skyping, texting, emailing and talking? Wouldn't you want to know what was instored for you if things did failed. Everyone can't be wearing rose color glasses in these long distance relationships.

There is no such thing as "responsible".

As a future family those things should be discussed especially when dealing with a LDR, and beneficiary leaving his country and everything behind. Just little common sense.

The foreign national can contact immigration and ask for removal from the US. The petitioner will then be billed for repatriation expenses, as agreed by means of the Affidavit of Support.

My suggestion is that a round trip ticket should be purchased in case things go wrong.

Okay OP has to clarify.

The way I read it is if the beneficiary was refused entry at the airport like our Chinese Lady at LAX - allegedly.

In that case the petitioner bought the return ticket on the spot. I wouldn't have done that personally. Use the delay to see if you can make some inquiries and take action.

Even if you had bought a return ticket, wouldn't the return part be for a date in the future?
