Just a couple days ago I called the NVC and spoke with an operator to see what our new NVC case number was (Sept. 5 approval) and the operator told me that they had not received our case yet. In frustration and disgust I turned to VJ and found that we weren't the only ones apparently still in the CSC mailroom. It was even suggested that by someone who was talking to an operator at CSC that the K1 cases where being forwarded directly to the embassies now. Well, low and behold I checked my email and a friend picking up my mail in Canada had emailed me to let me know that a "big white envelope from the U.S. Consulate General came in the mail for you today." WHAT!! She is forwarding it to me and as soon as I get it I am eager to check if it has an NVC case number and it was never updated into the system, or if it somehow bypassed the NVC alltogether. Best of luck to my fellow K1-ers in NVC limbo - hopefully things are moving for all!

I think you will find that it did indeed go via the NVC as all petitions do. It is not uncommon for K visa petitions to show up nothing on enquires to NVC and then suprisinging show up at the consulate post. K visa petitions are often only at NVC for a quick pitstop of a couple of days, other times weeks or months. The operator you spoke to may also have made an error in keying in your receipt number etc when you made the enquiry. Wouldnt be the first time.

Good to hear you are at the embassy/consulate  All the best

I'm glad things moved more rapidly than you'd expected.

Unfortunately, this same procedure could cause lots of uncertainty for others. For instance, the NOA2 time to P3 for China averages 3 months. That means that for 3 months my fiance and I may not know if we are lost in CSC, between CSC and NVC, between NVC and China, or in the consulate in China. Thus I'm REALLY hoping that NVC can give us accurate information.

This is my problem with the whole process Tom - we shouldn't have to hope that we will be given accurate information! Every aspect of dealing with our petitions is dogged by a severe lacking in information, either outright, or in its accuracy. I understand that the US processes a staggering number of immigration petitions, but there are still a significant number of K1 visa petitions processed on a yearly basis and one would think that a government service would have a formalized method that is implemented in the handling of these cases, not the wishy-washy "this should happen" or "this may or may not get recorded" that constantly goes on. Our case status was not even updated on the USCIS website until October 3rd (3 emails saying that our case was approved and that the approval notice had been mailed that day) when we received our NOA2 by mail on September 9th! It is my sincerest hope that enough voices are raised to bring reform to the US immigration procedures, if not the processing speed, at least to the process itself, the way the petitioners are treated, and to the quality of the service being offered, esp. in regards to information available. When the system in place to help petitioners access information about there case fails them, I would go so far to suggest it as a failing of the process overall.

Sorry to rant. It's just that it frustrates me that we can only hope for it when we should be able to expect good information. If we are expected to be good citizens and follow the laws in place regarding immigration, then it should only follow that we can expect the government to fulfill it's obligation of service to us when we do.
