If you are implying that the U.S. should march into another war for the benefit of Israel, that option has apparently been politely refused. The U.S. is using other methods of persuasion - methods that are much less costly to the American people, and much more effective.

How is stopping a genocidal dictator in an Arab country "for the benefit of Israel"?

Sounds like you're willing to cut off your nose to spite your face - let innocents in Syria die just so Israel doesn't get any "benefit" (though it baffles me what that might even be).

I think by in large Israel has been gaining breathing room. All eyes will be on Syria for the next year or so.

Certainly puts things into a much better context.

and then gave a link to a Washington Post article about the US levying sanctions on Syria.

Either the link was a non sequitur, or it implied that the sanctions were a better way to deal with Syria than marching into war (supposedly for the benefit of Israel.)

I was referring to UN resolutions that are essentially unenforceable.

UN Resolution 242 (which calls for Israel to withdraw to the 1967 borders and for Arab states to recognize it) is a good example.
