Hi guys! I finally have an interview date for my AOS. Birth Certificate is one of the docs that I am required to present. I want to know if a photocopy is ok because my original birth certificate is in the Philippines. =]

No.

The USCIS officer can request to see an original of any document at your interview. A birth certificate would need to be an original certified copy, certified by the custodian of the record.

You should make arrangements to obtain a certified copy of your birth certificate (either the one presumably in your family's possession in the Philippines or a new certified copy from the appropriate government authority) before the interview. If they ask you for it and you didn't have it to show them, they would likely issue you an RFE for it so you may as well just get it ahead of time.

The rule of thumb is that you NEVER send an original through the mail .. so when your filing the petitions everything you send is a copy ( and I dont mean the forms for USCIS, I mean your personal documents like marriage cert/birth cert/div. decrees ect. ). When you have a face to interviews, ALWAYS have the originals on hand in case they are asked for. If you do not or cannot get the original, a certifide copy is the next best thing.

March 2010 - sent off I-129F

March 27 2010 - Vermont receives package :)

April 3 2010 - Informed through mail that cheque is cashed NOA1

May 28 2010 - RFE notification ( yeah Im online checking alot >.< )

June 5 2010 - RFE hardcopy received

June 18 2010 - RFE returned ( had done it June 7 - but USPS returned grrrr )

Sent a photocopy of mine had no issues doing so.

Not going to pay 90$ for another certified copy of it just to send it away and never get it back. Thats redic blink.gif

I agree with this. Best Color Copy and Certified. It would be odd to ask for more.
