I had a question regarding travel outside of the US and authorization. Currently, my fiance and I are still waiting on our NOA2, however we are trying to plan ahead. My fiances dad was just diagnosed with a terminal condition and I am very nervous that we may need to travel back to the UK while we are waiting on our AOS paperwork. I saw there is an I-131 form but it looks like USCIS wants to know your anticipated dates of travel, which would be impossible to know. Also, it looks like it takes several months to process. Does anyone know if there is another option out there if we would need to travel back to the UK? I know if he left the US, that would stop our AOS paperwork but I'm hoping there are ways to get there if we need to. Thanks!!!

There is an emergency AP you can apply in person to and which is delievered in a week or so (methinks); it's obtainable by walking in the center and filling out an application.

Others must be more knowledgeable.

NVC [*] 14 May 2012 - Petition received by NVC ; [*] 16 May 2012 - Petition left NVC.

EMBASSY [*] 18 May 2012 - Petition arrived at the US Embassy in Bucharest; [*] 22 May 2012 - Package 3 received; [*] 24 May 2012 - Package sent to the consulate, interview date set; [*] 14 June 2012 - Interview date, approved.

POE [*] 04 July 2012 - Minneapolis/St.Paul. [*] 16 September 2012 - Wedding Day!

AOS/EAD/AP [*] 04 February 2013 - AOS/EAD/AP package sent; [*] 07 February 2013 - AOS/EAD/AP package delivered; [*] 12 February 2013 - NOA1 text messages/emails; [*] 16 February 2013 - NOA1 received in the regular mail; [*] 28 February 2013 - Biometrics letter received (appointment date, March 8th); [*] 04 March 2013 - Biometrics walk-in completed (9 out of 10 fingerprints taken, pinky would not give in); [*] 04 April 2013 - EAD/AP card approved; [*] 11 April 2013 - Combo card sent/tracking number obtained; [*] 15 April 2013 - Card delivered.

Welcome to the forum.

I am so sorry to hear of your fiance's father's health issues. Did you get a chance to review the forum's step-by-step K1/K2 AOS guide? There is a section that speaks specifically about emergency AP processing.

Good luck on your visa journey.

Completed: K1/K2 (271 days) - AOS/EAD/AP (134 days) - ROC (279 days)

You can just write "unknown" for travel dates. AP is approved in around 3 months from filing, and is routinely approved for people with a pending I-485. If you need it sooner than 3 months you can try for an emergency AP, but you will need a compelling reason.

Check out the AOS forum for more info.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!
