Baby born out of wedlock to US father and UK mother

So basically, we're trying to get my daughters CRBA done. I am her mother, a UK citizen (applying for my own US visa too) and her dad is a US citizen. We weren't married at the time she was born but we married 4 months later and her birth certificate had been updated and now shows my married name.

I have read conflicting information about what evidence we need. The embassy website says just the proof of her fathers US citizenship and residence is required.

Other websites (travel.state.gov) have shown we need to prove he is the father and he needs to swear on oath to support her until she is 18.

Does anybody know what is the correct route or how difficult it is to do this?

I called their phone line and was given another number to call but they're not open until tomorrow. Just curious as to what others have done until tomorrow when i can find out for sure.

Thanks :)

It depends on the country, so go by what the embassy website says.

In some countries, they require a DNA test for out of wedlock kids, because fraud is more common. Not in the UK, especially since he accepted the child as his by signing the birth cert. Will the US citizen dad be with you at the CRBA appointment? If he is, you won't have any trouble. If he is not, a letter from him acknowledging paternity etc may be a good idea.

Bye: Penguin

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Thanks :)

Yes he will be with me. We both live together in the UK. He got a visa to come and live with me (adjusted status from visitor to leave to remain) just after our daughter was born so we couldn't get married until after the visa was granted. That's the only reason the marriage happened when it did!

Thanks for your advice. I was 99% sure we wouldn't need to go down the DNA test route because everything seems very straight forward through the London embassy but as i'm sure we all know, its best to get these things right the first time! :)

Just an update for anybody in the same position - They said it's just normal procedure and all we have to do is fill in the forms and make an appointment at the embassy because her dad is on the birth certificate so thats enough for them to determine that he is the dad :)
