thank you so much for the responses that was really helpful

answering question, better prospects mean pay raise in the first two weeks of work, he gets just as much money as on the job he has now, which is about 5000 a year over the poverty line. Hope thats enough but his mother, who worked or the government and recently retired is gonna be a second sponsor so i dont think that we will have a problem with that. I was just cheking that the empolyer changes from paperwork to interview but we will take another form to the interview.

I know this is a little off topic but when it comes to approving the paperwork how important is it to have conjoined bank accounts, life insurance or phone bills together? cause since i came here on a tourist visa i have no phone, or bank account (getting me in my husbands bank account is being very difficult because my visa has expired) or anything like it?

i have plane tickets, photos, emails, my visa says i came to visit my then boyfriend, etc. in the end i have a lot of proof of bona fide but not a lot of legal background, will this become a problem?

All we had was our lease and our tenants insurance in both names. Our phone are both pay as you go. It wasn't a problem at all for us. You can always bring things to your interview that you didn't have available to submit in your packet. Are you applying for an EAD? as soon as it arrives go get your SSN, and start combining things then. They know you can't be on his bank account right now, in fact a bank that gives you a card with out an SSN can get in a lot of trouble (that's what the bank told us). Submit what you have. Accumulate the rest as you can and take it to the interview (original and a copy in case they want to keep it). If they RFE you, you just get what they're looking for. I really do recommend getting onto his lease. If he owns the home, get on the insurance for it.

If a bank cannot run a credit check on you, they can deny you as a customer, we had a lot of them do so including two very large national banks. We eventually gave up and he opened an account of his own with out me at a bank near our home. Even Walmart wont give you a card with out your SSN (you can buy the card and load it once, but you can't register it and get your own name on it, with out a SSN). Something to do with the Patriot Act.

Again..This is completely not true.

Not trying to argue with you, it's just a fact. All kinds of banks allow international customers - international customers like myself, who have no SSN. :bonk:

They don't need to run a credit check to open a checking or savings account. You aren't asking for credit, you are putting money in their coffers.

A passport for identification will do just fine.

You are more likely dealing with uninformed people who are not actually following bank policy for dealing with foreign clients.

I understand that some folks live in states that have strict laws for immigrants that don't allow them to be on bills etc. This is not true of most states.

What you are saying about it being about the patriot act and banks getting in trouble is just not correct. Sorry. :)

I was able to add my husband as joint owner to my bank account once he got an ITIN. He got that when we filed taxes.

The bank did not run a credit check. They knew he was Canadian and that he had a TIN, not an SSN. It was a non-issue.

Generally they need a number so they can report interest earned to the IRS.

He's been an authorized user of my credit cards since before we were even married. No number needed for that.

Certain banks (or certain branches) often refuse to add someone who has no legal status. Our bank (Citibank) was willing to add my husband but only if I was listed as the primary member. OP, you guys can consider calling around to different banks or locations, though. We has no trouble with Citibank or BB&T and others have reported good luck with Bank of America.

My husband changed his job the day before the AOS interview. What I did was to ask him to get a letter of

employment from his new employers just in case. As it was, the officer did not ask about his employment

so there was no need to bring up the subject!

Hello!

Once again thank you so much in advance, your guys help is like nothing else ive seen before, so thank you so much!

heres the thing, we are about to send the paperwork, finally! but my husband may be changing jobs in a week or two to a better job, hes gonna have the same amount of hours and pay rate but remarkably better prospects and closer to home. is it a problem if the job information we filled in the paperwork is for the old job he had?

thank you again!

Not a problem. No need to update anything, if asked in an interview (and only if asked in an interview) just be honest. IF you have an interview, take a few paystubs from his new job to prove income IN CASE you are asked.

VERMONT! I Reject Your Reality...and Substitute My Own!

Really?

the thing is that last year my husband was doing a program in costa rica so he didnt work at all, hence no taxt information, and this job that he has now is only a month old or so. Is it still enough to be my only sponsor?

If he is over the limit and can prove the income, it will likely be enough. Have the joint sponsor ready in case you are worried about it, but there is no need to have someone make that commitment if they don't have ask for it.
