what are the pre requisites?

Yes! You can.. You just need your ssn, marriage cert if want to use your married name, your immigration status papers, whatever is the expiry date on your immigration status will be the expiry date of your driver's license or permit.

Yes! You can.. You just need your ssn, marriage cert if want to use your married name, your immigration status papers, whatever is the expiry date on your immigration status will be the expiry date of your driver's license or permit.

merkin, has she gotten her honolulu state ID? I cant get mine as SSN is required? has she applied for the drivers license yet? where are you guys in honolulu?

Yes! She got her drivers permit, and SSN... SSN, is suppose to be the first thing you'll do coz without one there's nothing you can do.

Get your SSN first.

The only problem you will have is that if you didn't apply for SSN yet and your I-94 expired already, you'll have to wait for your GC before they give you SSN:(

on aos? well, if you have a green card, you carry yer stack of ID with you, and apply.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

In Vermont you can. A K-1 can get their license once married and filed for AOS. Alla had her license 2 months before her green card.

Your state may vary. This is not an immigration issue and is determined by each state, check with your state DMV

Really depends on your state, in PA my wife was able to get her license with a PI passport, unexpired 1-94, a SS#, my passport, my license and a marriage certificate.

She should have had her SS# about 15 days after entering the country. If your I-94 expired already I think you are probably screwed until GC.

Yes, I agree, that it depends on the state.

In Maryland you have to have either an unexpired I-94 or EAD. I got my Maryland DL with my EAD and it expires on the same day as my EAD (I will have to exchange the DL once I get my GC).
