Hi. I was wondering if I need to notify USCIS when we moved. My friend asked me about it. The thing is, we moved like a year ago and I didnt know If I need to because I already have my green card and I dont have any pending cases.

Please let me know. Will I have a penalty you think?

You are required by law as a green card holder to notify the USCIS of all changes of address you make.

The US citizen should also file forms for change of address but is not required to by law.

Penalties for Failure to Comply

A willful failure to give written notice to the USCIS of a change of address within 10 days of moving to the new address is a misdemeanor crime. If convicted, you (or parent or legal guardian of an alien under age 14 who is required to give notice) can be fined up to $200 or imprisoned up to 30 days, or both. The alien may also be subject to removal from the United States. (INA § 266(b)). Compliance with the requirement to notify the USCIS of any address changes is also a condition of your stay in the United States. Failure to comply could also jeopardize your ability to obtain a future visa or other immigration benefit.

You have 10 days from moving to report your address change via an AR-11. Your sponsor must also file an I-865 to change their address.
