getting forms notarized in Italy

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone out there could give me some advice. My fiance and I are in the process of gathering all of our documents for our K-1 visa petition. She needs to get her affidavit (on how we met, that we plan to marry, etc) notarized in Italy. However, she is getting the runaround. One office said they wouldn't notarize the document because it contained a sentence in the future tense ("I intend to marry within 90 days of my arrival in the USA"). So she asked them what she needed to do. They told her to try another kind of notary. So she took the affidavit to the other notary and they said they would do it, but for 1000 euros!!! Crazy!!! Obviously we aren't doing that, so she asked them if they had any other suggestions. They told her to call the US Embassy in Rome. So she called them and they said they would notarize the affidavit for 40 euros, but she needs to make an appointment online to go to the Embassy (and it costs 15 euros just to book the appointment). That doesn't sound so bad, but then the Embassy told her on the phone that their "stamp" might not be accepted by the US! Why wouldn't a US Embassy's "stamp" not be accepted by the USA? None of this makes sense to us. It can't be that difficult to obtain a notary in Italy, is it?

Has anyone else dealing with Italy had anything like this happen to them? Any ideas on how we can do this?

Thank you in advance...

Frank & Gloria

Correct. Problem solved. Nothing in the normal K-1 visa process needs to be notarized.

Agree, take a look at the penalties and certification statements, located in Form I-129F, Part D. Affixing your signature to the petition application nullifies the need for signature notarization.
