AP at NVC

Hey everyone just needed some peoples’ opinion/perspective on my situation. So my K-1 petition was approved on March 22. NVC finally entered our information on April 11th and gave me a NVC case number. Called Friday, April 20th and was told that my case should be sent to the embassy early next week (this week). So I called NVC today to see if the case had been sent out and was just informed that out application was placed in AP yesterday, April 23. So I have a few questions:

1) Is it normal to be placed on AP more than a month after being approved?

2) What is the average time I need to wait to be removed from AP?

3) If/when would be the best time for me to involved my congressman/senator in this matter?

This whole situation is insane. I don’t understand why there were so many delays AFTER the petition being approved.

Kind of hard to say what is "normal" at the NVC.

2) What is the average time I need to wait to be removed from AP? There are few stats on this, seems to vary a lot.

3) If/when would be the best time for me to involved my congressman/senator in this matter? I suggest that you give it a 1-2 weeks.

This whole situation is insane. I don’t understand why there were so many delays AFTER the petition being approved.

Responses in green. NVC seems to have several different meanings for AP, including Additional Processing and Administrative Processing. They seem to amount to the same thing, a delay in getting your file to the consulate. Our file was in the "AP limbo" for almost 2 weeks, then released to the consulate, with no concrete explanation. It is just the workings of another government bureaucracy. Since this whole visa process is all about dealing with numerous government bureaucracies, with alphabet names, each one seems to take their own time processing your petition/file. Yeah, the petitions are approved by USCIS, a part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and then it is handed off to the NVC, a part of the Department of State (DOS). See how the alphabet soup of government agencies start to show up once you enter their realm.

Hang in there, keep you eye on the goal of this whole process.

Good luck on your visa journey.
