I don't know.

I do not have an engagement ring because we want to use the money to buy very expensive wedding rings instead. and therefore I will not be able to show any engagement evidence like that at the consulate.

I think it will not be a problem. I will just show them all the other evidence of our relationship that I have (pictures and a few love letters and plaintickets and the letter of intent to get married). I guess if you have other evidence you will not need an engagementring.

An engagement ring is not part of the K-1 requirements.

Buying one is a personal choice and should not come up in the visa interview.

Hi loonphang,

This varies from country to country and Consulate Officer to Consulate Officer. But I can tell you that at the U.S. Embassy in Colombia it was very important the CO’s asked that in the interview. One particular fiancée said she forgot it in the hotel and the CO told her to go and get it. I am not telling you that is the only thing they look at but that is one of many things some CO look at and if you are border line this may put you over. Of course no where that I have seen it states that you must buy an engagement ring.

Remember you have the burden of proving your relationship.
