Hello Everyone,

I will be arriving United States from India on Fiancé Visa (K-1 Visa) in the last week of May. I'll be travelling on British Airways and will be landing at Terminal 7 at 12:35 PM and have an American Airlines flight to San Francisco from Terminal 8 at 15:30.

Do I have to clear Immigration before catching a Flight to San Francisco ?

If Yes, then does any one knows that how much time it takes to get through Immigration at JFK Airport?

Yes, you clear customs at point of entry. 30 minutes to 3 hours. How many international flights will land just before yours? 3 hours should be good, 2 would be pushing it. You also have to take train to transfer terminal.

Go here to read reviews of others that have used JFK as their POE to see what it is like. 3 hours SHOULD be enough time, but I have never gone thru JFK on an international flight, Newark, La Guardia, O'hare, yes.

Good luck,

Dave

There are many flights to land before my gets there..

3 hours is typically good. You have to wait for visa stamp, and wait for luggage, possibly, and then wait to clear baggage. If you are on United or American (i think american), you can then re-check bags right from international terminal. Then follow signs to "Air Train" - which will take you to local terminal. Then you must re-enter security.

Figure about an hour or 1-1/2 max. You're fine.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

JFK is super quick. For my situation, visitor waiting was around 20-30 minutes, and immigration process was 3-5 minutes ( No question asked, no x-ray, nothing ).

Terminal: 8 at 12:30 pm

Yes, JFK is super quick when you run up right to the passport control, behind 3 people. Have you been there when all those ropes were filled to the end with people waiting? Must be about 300-500 people in front of you at least when these ropes are filled to the end... then finally when you think you are going to make it, the line at security at your new terminal is a mile long. But if all this happens and you miss your flight... you should be able to arrange next flight at no cost.... just the cost of waiting (((. I have been through JFK maybe 8 times... probably 75% success of flying through, and 25% of getting hung up somewhere.
