I'm sure this has been discussed many times, but my wife is going in for her interview soon. One of her friends is going through the same process and hired a lawyer to help her through it. This friend told my wife that they will ask civic questions that are not in the list. I'm not sure if her friend had this information first-hand or through the lawyer. It seems a little odd because documentation seems to be pretty clear that the questions will come from the list, verbatim.

Has anyone heard of anything like this? My wife is really stressing that they're going to ask her a lot of civic questions she can't answer.

What else should she expect at the interview?

Thank you for your time and help!

No, they will NOT ask questions from the red book that is given to you when you go for biometrics. In the book, there is a large capital and bold sentence saying they will not ask anything from the book. Also, watch out, the book given to me was outdated. It's better to print the current PDF from the website and use that to study. They can only ask questions from the list of 100 nothing else. They don't even reword the questions.

They will ask you personal questions from your application though, including all the no no no yes yes yes questions, so best to know what the questions on the application mean and what to answer orally.

Ok. I just open this red book I was given when I had my biometrics. It does say in bold and underlined letters that we will not be tested on the additional information in the short lessons. Also it says that this book will help to study for the test.

So, are you sure that they won't ask any questions from the book? Because all of my 6 questions were from this red book.

And also I can tell you that all 100 questions in the book were absolutely and exactly the same as the questions in the pdf file and the flash cards from the USCIS site.

Yes I meant they won't ask questions about the additional information, it's just a book if you want to learn more about a specific topic for your own knowledge. Some questions in the book given to me were wrong, such as who is the speaker of the house, it said nancy pelosi, and others were outdated.

They will ask her 10 civics questions and if she gets the first 6 correct they do not continue.

They are going to go through her application question by question and ask about her answers if they need clarification or ask her to repeat some info (I believe I had to state my full name, husband's name and few simplae things she will already know since it is her application).

She has absolutely nothing to worry about except be honest and answer their questions in a straight forward manner.

The CO can ask any kind of questions they want. It is up to you to know all the answers. They could even ask what color underwear your SO like to wear.

Thank you for the mental image of someone asking that question. :) I don't think she's worried about personal questions. She is more concerned about the civics questions.

Yes, the reading and writing questions are different from the 100 (not sure if they ALL are, but the ones I have heard are different) BUT the book lists all the words that might appear... I don't have the book around any more, but my husband's question was the one about "which state has the most people... "California is the state with the most people" and I am pretty sure that all those words were on that list.

Make sure your wife knows your birthday! :) That's the only thing my husband didn't know... well he did know but he got it wrong at first.

Also some people are asked their Social Security number and/or phone number so it might be helpful to know those. I made my husband learn them. Probably not critical, but I would rather know these numbers than be digging around in my documents for that information....
