Wait, really? Is there a catch? I mean, they don't just go on charging the old fees if your petition is already in the system or something, do they? If this is for real, what a nice surprise!

I'm assuming if you've already filed a petition, this doesn't apply to you. This is for petitions filed on or after April,15. This is wonderful news for future filers. I'm shocked the government didn't just keep collecting the old fees even if the weren't necessary

both K1 and Spousal Visa went down...If we waited to file until after this change we could have saved..(even with denial) over $200 hahaha

This is the visa application fee that the embassy charges, right? Not the filing fee that USCIS charges for the petition? I have already paid the petition filing fee ($340), but have not yet paid the visa application fee ($350), which appears to be the fee that is changing (for K-1) to $240. If the embassy is going to somehow charge the old fee for petitions filed before the change date and the new one for petitions filed after it, that would be good to know. I haven't yet reached the stage of paying this particular fee, though, so I hope this is good news.

Good question. I was thinking it was the petition fees. I would think if your petition gets to the NVC after April 13 (I said the wrong date in my other post) you would be charged the new fee (for cr1) and if it reaches the embassy after April 13, you would get new fees. That is how I'm understanding it.
