I sent my packet for my fiance off Monday. I live in Louisiana so I sent it to the Texas Service Center. He lives in the Dominican Republic. I know that he loves me but reading some of posts scare me and I am starting to second guess starting this process. Are there any success stories with true love and what should I expect?

if there is true love then nothing should matter. Also, I am sure that this is something that you and your fiance have talked about for a long time before summiting the papers.

Second guessing yourself ...not really a good sign. Maybe you are just nervous about this process, which is very long and fustrating at times.

They are going to be good and bad stories about this process. Don't rely on the bad experiences of others unless you have a similar situation or see red flags on your own relationship. I am sure you have a wonderful fiance and a great relationship.

Wish you the best

How long have you known him? Be very careful, Dominicans are masters of sweet talking, and many are desperate for a visa. I guess it is a little too late to be second guessing yourself since you already submitted the paperwork. Keep making visits, perhaps a surprise visit and I wish you the best of luck. Remember we are all taking risks here even if we are super sure the love we have with someone is 100% real. Just be smart.

I am 50% Dominican and I have heard many stories like the ones Stephainie is alluding to. Be very careful. I know that we, as women tend to be very romantic and want to get swept away, but if we are only lead by the heart and not the head as well...we are just setting ourselves up to be used. Good luck and I wish you the best.

There are risks everywhere. You could very well meet someone else in the U.S. that uses you. There are lessons to be learned in bad and good situations. Just take it easy and if its meant to be it will be. Good Luck.

Just be very smart. We are all adults here so don't ignore anything that seems "weird" or fishy" because you are blinded by love. I have seen and read my fare share of horror stories, some from our very own vj members. Don't be discouraged just be cognizant.

Oh honey.........I wish there was a way to know exactly what was real /fake.....but unfortunately this is impossible. I hope you have known or been with him for a decent amount of time. And even then, we really never know a person until they are living with us. Every story on here is different - some great and some are very sad. It's a huge chance and I emphasize the word HUGE!!!

If you ever want to talk or need advice feel free to message me.

Thanks hun - its ok......not everyone is the same though but everyone needs to be extremely careful when doing this process. What I will say is - if there are ANY red flags in your relationship, if you feel like he isn't treating you like you deserve, if he is asking for money too often, if he is secretive, if his family is always asking about the residency and specifics about his green card......those are alllllll things that should make you think twice before you continue any further. And if you decide not to go through with it - so, you lost $420.....or however much to file the petition. Believe me, that's chump change compared to what you could go through in the future ...... telling you this from experience.

Don't follow your heart - follow your mind.

Thanks for the advice. None of those flags are coming up but I have been very cautious and will continue to be. We talk like 5 times a day. He's in college for marketing and wants to continue his education here but the only problem is that his English isn't very strong. I think that he knows not to play with me bc I am a boxer. Lol

Why did you send it to the Texas Service Center? The latest I-129F form shows that ALL applications are to be sent to the Lewisville TX lockbox, no matter where you live. At least I thought so....

Hi,

There are thousands of success stories with true love and there are some horror stories as well. We tend to let the horror stories overshadow the success stories. What you have to do is search your heart and listen to the voice inside of you. You know what you want and how you want to be treated. If you have questions or doubts voice them to your fiance. Listen to his responses and then use your MIND to determine if this is something you want or need. Saying that, all relationship involve risks. Even if he were right there in your town doesn't guarantee he won't hurt you. Just don't let your love for him blind you of any red flags.

Good luck!
