My husband received a right hand injury at work yesterday. It is his dominant hand, he is going to have surgery on Sunday. And probably won't be able to write for a month or so. Our paperwork is done, but it is not signed. What should we do? Should we just postpone for a month, or attach a medical exam from the doctor?

... or he could just sign with his other hand...

It doesn't look like a signature, it looks nothing like what he signs usually, so the signatures just won't match with anywhere else.

It doesn't matter. To sign something, he just needs to "make his mark." His signature could be an X. In a court of law he can testify that he made that mark and so therefore it is his signature.

In fact, I have read of people being really snarky and signing credit card receipts with totally different names. Since they made the mark on it, it's legit, no matter what it says.

I wouldn't suggest going that far, but you and your husband have to get used to the fact that he is going to sign documents for some months with his left hand. That will be his signature now. You think he is not going to use a credit card for months? That requires a "signature" and obviously it won't match old ones.

You can attach a sheet explaining the different signature style if you wish, but I think putting off filing for months until his right hand is better is silly.
