Hi Everyone!

Can't believe it's been almost 2 years since I've filed for AOS. Now it is time to file ROC for hubby! But as I'm organizing everything, I have a few questions in regards to the Affidavits from friends and family.

Do the Affidavits need to be notarized? I see many people get it notarized but is it really necessary? If it is then I will ask they get their affidavit notarized although everyone I will request to submit for us is pretty busy with work. If it is not necessary is a little sworn statement at the end of the Affidavit enough? Please let me know. :)

I am hoping to submit at least 2 Affidavits from our 2 best friends and 1 from my mother. I think this should suffice.

Thanks in advance for your help~

you don't have to get it noterized but uscis gave instructions that it must be noterized. lot of people on this website didn't get their's noterized and there were no problems of getting their roc approved.

You do know that affidavits are completely unnecessary if you have plenty of other evidence, right?

I sent in three letters with my I-751 and didn't have an issue - I forgot to get them notarized - but we received our approval - but that does not mean they made the decision based off of that information alone - I would recommend getting the statements notarized, as they ask for it - I forgot and feel like I got lucky. This is only my opinion and suggestion.

Yeah, I didn't send any affidavits and got approved without RFE or interview ;)

I have a friend who sent all other kinds of evidence (including common child, financial, etc - her husband is in the military, so she had a ton of docs showing mingling of assets, joint residence and travel together) and she got an RFE specifically and only for the affidavits, which she thought were not important. I notarized ours, it's pretty easy to do in any bank, law office or bigger business and it's usually free.

Hmm. We didn't submit affidavits either, notarized or not. And we got approved with no RFEs and no interview. But clearly it's at the discretion of the USCIS person who touches the case. If you can get these affidavits no problem, then I don't see how it'd hurt to add them on top of other strong evidence. Good luck!
