Did anyone find it scary to do this process, knowing the time you will take in this, and all the money you will spend, and in the end still not getting the 100% assurance that you will even be approved?? I mean, are people denied even if they do all the steps and have a clean record? or is it a matter of keep trying and wait your turn?

Im looking at all the forms and documents and trying to make an outline of the steps and fees required so I can have a visual at the process so I can be prepared the best I can. I dont want to miss anything, I think i have a basic understanding of what to do. we all want success  any advices?

thanks

It was scary for me at first because I wasn't sure what the hell I was doing. After you educate yourself it's less scary.

My advice would be study your regional forum and benefit from other experiences and study some more.

Indian consulates can be tough. The smoothness of your case will depend on many factors. Do you have a relationship that is considered "normal" by Indian/Iraqi standards? Do you guys have a large age difference? Did you meet online? Do your families disapprove of the relationship? If you answered yes to any of these prepare yourself well with plenty of evidence especially time spent physically together.

Best of luck to you!

I am the petitioner.

Yes, a little at first and only every now and again. Like JimVaPhuong said, most of the people responding have significant other's from first world countries. My husband is from a third world country. It's very high in fraud and more likely to deny visas. Therefore, there were times that I was concerned that we would be denied. However, I didn't find the process itself scary because I did my homework and prepared very well in advance. And for that reason, I became more and more confident that we would get through it with no problems.

I mean, are people denied even if they do all the steps and have a clean record? or is it a matter of keep trying and wait your turn?

I've read of some K1 applicants from high fraud/mena countries that had their things in order and still got denied. Specifically for Dominican Republic, I'm going to answer yes to this question. There are a few cases where the couple was suspected of fraud, given a stokes interview which they passed, and they were still denied. All of those couples had applied for a K1 and all the steps were followed correctly and they had no problems with police reports. The CO seemed to focus on the fact that they didn't just get married in Dominican Republic as opposed to wanting to marry in the US and after the denial told them to get married and come back. They got married and started the process all over again (this time a CR1) and ended up getting approved. It definitely depends on what country the beneficiary is from. Some couples have absolutely nothing to worry about on interview day, while others have to work extra hard to prove their case.

Im looking at all the forms and documents and trying to make an outline of the steps and fees required so I can have a visual at the process so I can be prepared the best I can. I dont want to miss anything, I think i have a basic understanding of what to do. we all want success  any advices?

READ as much as you can before you get started and during the process. Good Luck!!

Hi everyone. I'm not sure if this is the right place to bring up this topic but I need some help. I'm a naturalized american citizen currently residing in the united states. My fiancé currently has a B1/B2 visa. We were originally planning to get married here in the US on her next visit in July 2012. But I was advised to get a K-1 fiancé visa instead as this would be more appropriate and legal. Should we wait and apply for the K-1 first or go ahead and tie the knot? All the advice and help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
