Confused about times (AOS and F categories)

How long does it usually take for the AOS process to complete and receive a green card? I have read very different information on the web. Some people say they waited a couple to a few months, while some web pages state AOS takes several years.

Why the difference? Does it depend where you are adjusting from? What if you're adjusting from a family-based category, more specifically, from a F1?

Moving to adjustment of status from student / work visitor from adjustment from family visa.

OP is adjusting from F-1 visa not family visa.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

I think the OP is chasing after a F-1 category visa, not a F-1 student visa. He has Priority date and stuff in his sig. Op- what are you after?

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Exactly Harpa, I'll be adjusting from a work/student visa using a I-130 (waiting for visa availability) on the F1 (i.e. F1B) family category.

ETA: I guess the post could belong to either forum :)

It depends on many factors: documents, status maintaining, clear background check, local office timeline... Most are from 3-6 months. My cousin had waited for more than 2 years because of USCIS background check, he was F1 from Vietnam in Jacksonville FL. He was super exhausted and stressful. He had emailed/mailed more than hundreds time, finally they gave him a 10-yrs card with no interview at all for F1, courtesy maybe??? This is a wait game, and patience is the key. You can't have a specify answer for how long. Good luck.

You confuse us, if you married to USC then your F1B petition is irrelevant. You just follow the timeline of AOS from marriage-based petition, which is from 3 - 6 months.

If you want to know about AOS from another category rather than marriage to USC, you should check the visa bulletin. It will tell you where they are processing now.

Nancy, thank you for the info! I'm not yet close to doing AOS, but I was reading some sites and found conflicting info. For example: http://www.immigrationusa.pro/consular-processing/, where it says (third paragraph) that AOS takes "several years", which I don't think is always the case.

Okay, you are in the US, waiting for some visa category to be current so you can AOS. Have you maintained legal presence this whole time? AOS takes a few months. It used to take a few years, so probably whatever you are reading is dated.

Yes, I have maintained legal presence the whole time. So hopefully it will be a few months when the time comes. Well, now back to waiting for my priority date to become current! Thanks for the help!

Nancy, sorry for the confusion. I have not married anyone, I'm waiting for visa availability on a family-based category.

Not exactly. I was just asking for AOS times. Not about current family-based cutoff dates, I'm familiar with those, look at my signature :)

After you have the visa number, AOS is 3-6 months.
