Oh my I am about to have a panic attack. I have been looking through these threads. I married my Husband in December of 2011 and just finally got the I-130 package out today. I was trying to get all of the info needed to show we are a real couple because we are not living together right now because of school and work obligations. Anyway I got the info from the USCIS London Embassy website, they had a Credit Card payment form... I printed it out and mailed it in, because I am living in the UK but not a resident I had to send it off to the chicago lock box.... but everyone else is talking about paying by check or money order... did I do something wrong by sending in the credit card payment form from the london website?

Does this mean that I am going to have to start all over or will they just request a different form of payment? I made copies of everything I sent, but I sent original receipts and a couple of cards that we have received from friends for the holidays, and I didn't make copies of those.

IIRC, that form is solely used to pay the fees when filing the I-130 via DCF (direct consular filing) to US Embassy London - USCIS office - not used for payment to USCIS in USA (ie - the lockbox) at all.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Like I said I understand now that I messed up on the payment aspect of it, but am I going to have to start it all over and resend it or will they just ask for another form of payment?

I am so stressed out at this point... I am so lost as to what I am doing, I love my husband so much and I just want to be able to take him home with me but I keep getting lost in all the paperwork... I went through the london embassy because we thought we could file there because we are both in the UK but they wouldn't let me because I am not technically a resident I am only here for 42 weeks instead of 52. So I used all the information from their website to build our packet and then was told it had to go to chicago... I am so overwhelmed at this point I can't stop crying. I worked for two months putting it together what i thought perfect because I didn't want them to deny it... I am ready to pull my hair out, and it has all just started.

Calm down, you will get your I-130 approved, just not this specific packet, this time.

The entire package will just be rejected when it first arrives. It'll likely be returned to you, so you should be getting everything back.

The other good news is that they check for these things initially, and reject petitions that aren't filled or paid for correctly. In other words, you won't have to wait 6 months for them to determine your form of payment was incorrect.

I've noticed a few threads here about 'mis-payment' -

Basically what will happen (if yer lucky)

is that

you'll receive a notice back from USCIS stating you have 30 days to PAY, with instructions on HOW TO PAY

or

the entire casefile will be sent back to you, DENIED because of improper payment.

I can't tell you WHICH path you'll be on - but you should know something within 30 days.

A DENIAL at this stage is easy-peasy - just re-submit what was sent back to you (the I-130 casefile) with the proper payment.

Good Luck !

Good Luck !

We had sent in a money order and the person that printed it out made it in Canadian funds instead of US funds. I told them three times US funds, but ultimately it was my fault for not double and triple checking before I sent off my package.

We received a letter in 28 days telling us that the payment was rejected and that we had 14 business days to make a payment by credit card over the phone (there is a number on the notice), or mail in a check or money order in US funds.

We chose to pay over the phone with a credit card.

We then got another letter that our proper payment was received, and our petition was back in line for processing. What the letter did not tell us was that it changed our processing date from June 16th to July 25th. I discovered this after calling USCIS at the five month mark of our first NOA. (if you go by our second NOA we've still waiting over 7 months.)

We had to send in a form so they could release the electronic copy of the money order so we could get our money back.(that was a horrible experience)
