My father will be filing the I-134 for my fiance and his income is 4,000 below the poverty line and to make up for this..i understand that he can show assets.

- he will be showing our real estate property worth a few hundred thousand (will he need to show his deed and/or mortgage paper work to document this?)

- he has real estate property in india also (will he need to document this? or can he just write the value of it under personal property??)

- he also has plenty of gold (jewelry) which can be considered liquid asset, but how will this be documented???? does this even have to documented? can we just write value of gold, or would they definitely require documentation?

- gold can be listed under personal property..but i don't see how he will be able to document that?

His assets in a different country will not help him. You could go and get a valuation on the gold and so on but they might not accept it as an asset. Might be easier to have someone else to sponsor if possible

Assets are valued at 1/3 to make up for shortfalls in income. It takes $12,000 in net assets to equal $4000 in shortfall.

The assets must be held in the United States, the Indian property does not count. Real Estate is not always accepted, and is usually not accepted if it is the person's home. He will need a professional appraisal and copies of his mortgage (if any) to show net value. It is up to the consulate officer that reviews the case whether to accept the assets ffered or not. Likewaise the gold. Any asset claimed must be supported by documentation.

Remember the government does not care if you and your fiancee ultimately live under a bridge in a refrigerator box, what they care about is being able to collect any money your fiancee may receive for welfare benefits. They have no interest in trying to seize property in foreign countries.
