Translating passport

Well, if the person in question needs it to get their K-1, then it is implied that the person would be translating for the purpose of travel.

ALL Passports have either FRENCH or ENGLISH written on them. This has been the case for YEARS. Why do this? So that One's passport is accepted THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. I'm not saying you're wrong, I am simply saying that it seems odd and that I have never heard of it.

Why do I suppose Passport Translation Services are in business? I dunno, people trying to convince people they need something, when they don't, in order to make money... 'You NEED this!' <--- What every TV commercial is telling it's viewers, without actually telling them. Simple, but effective!

I imagine they are in business due to the imaginary advice from the forums. Wake up sheeple. I thought the number one VJ rule was wait for the RFE, and give them what they ask for? I think they wanted an English translation, not French. But, go ahead, send it in with a French translation, along with a letter of ignorance.

Yea - I also have never heard of a passport translation request. That's strange .... what did the RFE say?

The passport is in re: Requirement petitioner and beneficiary have met in person.

They didn't ask for passport translation, but at the top of RFE it indicates that all foreign language documents MUST be translated. The passport is in Haitian Kreole and French. Some of the Stamps are in Spanish.

I just got off phone with customer service rep and basically she read the RFE canned answer. I asked to speak with someone who was more familiar with the process. But no doing.

No way in the world can we afford to have the all those pages translated from Kreole, French, and with stamps(French and Spanish) included.

Just my luck...they started on our petition right away...now, don't know what to do! Will have to get an infopass because I DO NOT want another RFE or God forbid a denial!

And yes, Passports are printed in Native language AND English!

Well, I hate to burst your bubble but ALL passports aren't printed in Native language AND English! Haitian passport is written in Creole and French...absolutely no English. I have the documents in hand and there isn't any. If it had English I wouldn't be here trying to get help!!!!

OMG I did not translate my Haitian fiance's passport. I did translate his birth certificate. I didn't think I needed to translate the passport because I didn't hear anyone else had too. I also didn't think it was a big deal because its pretty self explanatory (its set up just like a passport from the USA). I think that RFE is a bunch of BS. Praying for u NOLA!

I tend to think the stamps would not need translation, as they do no ask English passports to translate their stamps... The translation may only be 3-4 pages (just guessing, get an online quote), as most pages have same text, and could be so noted by the translator. You would include translation and original. Just speculation, but requesting a quote is free, and i've seen some sites which guarantee USCIS quality translation. just opinion... but worth finding out.

Think I may have found answer. Did a google search and found this from several attorneys(yeah, I know how most feel about them) but there is an exception for document translations:

1. For any documents that are not in English, you must provide an English translation.

EXCEPTION: You do not need to translate your passport if the passport is written predominately in a language other than English.

But I will send the translated bio/Identification page just in case.

It is customarily in translations that seals, stamps, etc are not translated and only noted. Thus, you only need to translate the bio pages and other pages with original text (that is, printed originally in the passport). ALso, you don't need to hire a service; you need to find someone fluent in the passport languages and English (your beneficiary??) who can do it and note that he/she is fluent in the languages in question.
