In an attempt to get my mind off of the Visa interview (which is a month away) I was thinking about what my fiance will need when he finally comes here.

So I am wondering if anyone here might know what he needs to prove his degrees when applying for jobs. He has a Master's degree in Information Technology which was obtained at a University in Islamabad. Is the Diploma Certificate enough?

Also, is there any benefit to him getting an International Driver's License?

Thanks!

Wow! You ask an interesting question. It might not be a bad idea to have a certified, translated copy of his college transcript to bolster his Diploma Certificate and add credibility.

Good luck.

Don't know about your state but here in NC they don't accept international drivers license... but since i work for an international company i asked a gentleman who just opened an account with us about his license.. he said he is using his country license for 90 days and then he has to update to the NC license. They will add him to an insurance policy etc using that one and when he gets his new license he will update his policy reflecting the new one.

LOL i too have been searching this so when Adil comes all we have to do is add him to the insurance policy using his karachi license and he can study and take the test for his new one within 90 days.

Yes, I want to be sure that while he is still in Pakistan that he gets any documents that he can and will need because when he comes here it will be more difficult to get them until he is able to travel back to Paksitan after AOS. The certifide copies of his transcipts are a good idea. He has both a Bachelor's and a Master's and already has the Degree certificate but I am not sure what the US requires for emplyment purposes.

Oh wow! So you have the inside scoop! :) You make a good point though, I forgot how different rules and regulations can be between the different states. Although, I live in Maryland which isn't too far away from NC so maybe it's similar. I guess I'll have to look at our Dept of Motor Vehicles site to see if I can find anything out on there.

Thank you both for your responses!

It would be better for him to handle his transcripts while he is there in his country.

It's taking us a long time because we are having family/friends take care of them for us. And they are being mailed which takes a few weeks to receive mail from Nigeria. Wished we have thought about his transcripts while he was in Nigeria.

I live in Minnesota, I called the DMV here to ask the very same question...and I found out that,

Even if the Beneficiary has a license from their own country they will still have to take both the written and driving test....the only difference here (MN) is that if they had a previous license they would have to be driving on a "permit" for 3 months instead of being able to take the drivers test right away...

I would just give the DMV a call to check if there would be any benefit for your state...

Google "ECE" We used them to evaluate Alla's foreign education and degrees.

An international drivers license is usually accpeted at least for some period by most US states. Our state, Vermont, accepted it for 60 days. Alla had one, do not ask me how she got it, bribery or in exchange for sexual favors is my guess, but it served as her "learners permit" for her to legally learn to drive so it was not without value. The international license will allow him to practice here before going for a state drivers license. Check with your state DMV
