And I agree, black powder firearms are messy and I hate cleaning them too - and you really need to clean them well if you wish to keep it operational and safe.

So, it appears to be the 'technology' involved in the firearm that determines whether it is classified as an antique or a firearm, rather than just when it was actually made. This is very similar to how such antiques and black powder weapons are addressed under Canadian legislation as well..

Yes it is. And what many people do not know is that it is relatively easy for US citizens/residents to bring firearms to Canada provided they are not of the restricted type and it is easy to get the permit for sporting purposes. There are many skeet and trap clubs in Montreal and the surrounding area and we belong to a club in northern Vermont and have man, many Canadian members who frequently shoot in our skeet and trap competitions.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I use a lot of cast bullets, made from an alloy rather than pure lead. Sousita, you would use pure lead balls for the revolvers you are considering.

I use wheelweight metal, straight, for most of the bullets and 20:1 lead to tin for the Black Powder Cartridge Rifle bullets. I cast bullets because it is cheap (wheelweights are free) and I can make bullets for a lot of the obsolete rifles I have which you can no longer buy bullets for.

I think I'm settled on the Uberti version. I'm going to buy either .375 or .380 balls for it to start, but I've read about making paper cartridges and that sounds like a lot of fun. If things go well, I might try that with pre made conical bullets.

There's a black powder group that meets every two weeks at a nearby range, I think I'll go there the first time I use it since I've never used a cap and ball revolver before.

Cigarette papers make excellent paper cartridges, pre gummed and all. I also have used them for paper jackets on cast bullets in BP cartridge rifles

I have also used them, with less success, to "bump up" jaketed bullet diameter for use in obsolete rifles. I was never too happy with the accuracy and usually find better results with cast bullets

No. I have several single stage presses, I do not use progressives. I have an RCBS Jr., RCBS Rockchucker, Lyman Orange Crusher for metallic cartridges and 5 MEC single stage shotshell machines which fit in an interchangeable plate on my bench. I currently load for 5 shotshells (12, 16, 20 , 28 ga, and .410) and 83 rifle and pistol cartridges.

I have a full setup for cast bullets which I use for several of the firearms.

Cool.... saw Dillon was impressive.

Cool.... saw Dillon was impressive.

The Dillon is a good machine and makes lots of bullets. Those machines are good for people who shoot a LOT of one type of ammunition. A target competitior that uses only a particular load for all his competition. Canging to a different load or different cartridge with the same machine is difficult and expensive. They are production machines designed for producing one thing. It woul dbe like going to the Ford Truck plant and saying "OK, today we make Ford Fiestas!"

I do not shoot so much of one cartridge but I shoot small amounts of LOTS of different cartridges. I also handload for obsolete cartridges which requires making my own cases by forming them, really a swaging operation, from other cases in specialized dies, or some not so specialized dies. A progressive press is not going to have the power to do that, because the power is divided between several stations doing work all at once.

In short, several single stage presses work better for MY needs but maybe not for someone else's. I coudl do it with one large single stage, but I have accumulated them over the years so why not?

Thats true... when all the stations are loaded it does like 7 action with one pull.

When you playing around with various size cartridge then something like Dillon would not make sense.

You could have both. I had thought at one time of adding a Dillon. I am much too ####### retentive about my match loads to use mass produced ammo though, I would just be a nervous wreck. Not for any good reason.

Or a MEC progressive shotshell loader. I shoot perhaps 200 shells per week (shotgun) but it may be in 4 gauges. So which one to get the machine for? All? OK, but they are not cheap and I can make 100 shells per hour easily with a single stage, 200 if I push, which I rarely do. I woul drather keep my singles stage presses and buy a new shotgun. :P I leave the machines set up and I can whip out a box of shells (25) while Alla puts dinner on the table. I bang out a box here or there and always have plenty when we go shooting. If Alla is away for the day at class or something, I may do a marathon session and load 500 or 600 shells. I have so many rifle cartridges on hand I doubt I would ever have to load another but I am particular about match ammunition.

I probably spend more time in forming obsolete cases and experimenting with ways to make a Winchester M1886 in .40-65 shoot better. The world needs more accurate .40-65 ammo! :P

lol.... I m much of a handgun person.

I have not been reloading, but have been thinking about it...I think would be fun. :)

I was looking at various setups and I kinda thought Dillon was cool as I would be only playing around with 9mm or .45 or maybe .40

Maybe you should do a video and putup on youtube of you doing the reloads. :)
