Hi,

My wife is from Chennai, India and they don't issue any physical birth certificates. We have submitted the computer generated certificate with DS-230 which doesn't require any seal or signature. But we got an e-mail today from NVC saying that the birth certificate is not original or certified copy. I've called the operator and explained about this document. Also replied NVC giving the clarification.

Does anyone come across this situation. Do we need to send the certificate again with signature from the issuing authority. I didn't get any RFE e-mail with the bar code. Got an e-mail response for my status inquiry only. Appreciate your reply.

Thanks

Birth was already registered at govt. authority. But the certificates were generated online.

Just check whether u can get the online document stamped with the Govt seal..Meanwhile Keep communicating with NVC for this RFE as there is a time limit for you to respond to the RFE..

Good Luck..

We got a letter from Departmaent of Health, Corporation of Chennai stating that the computer generated birth certitificates are valid and it doesn't require any seal or signature on them. We submitted this evidence along with RFE letter on December 28, 2011 and didn't get my review completed. I talked to NVC regularly and they keep telling us it takes 20 business days like that. It went more than 20 business days and I talked to supervisor couple of times and they are saying it is in document review department now and they are reviewing the documents.

Does anyone come across this kind of situation. Please advise. Thanks.

I had the same issue with birth certificate from chennai in Oct 2010. MY case was completed in about 10 business days after they sent it for review. Not sure of the reason why it is taking longer for you.

All, My wife's case is completed today and they asked her to get original/certified copy of birth certificate to her interview in Mumbai. As review took about 45 days which is beyond standard time frame, can I request them to schedule interview in March. I see that Mumabi consulate already scheduled until 16th March. Did anyone request NVC to schedule interview date sooner. Is it possible to do that.

Hi guys. I'm in the same boat. I'm the beneficiary applying for CR-1 visa and I'm about to mail my civil documents to NVC. I was born in Chennai, hence, I only have the computer generated birth certificate which claims to not require a signature and seal. I believe this has led to RFE's from NVC so how should I tackle this?

This thread is 2 years old, and the OP hasn't logged on to VJ for a year. If you haven't learned the answer in another way, perhaps someone will send you a personal message, or you can contact the consulate directly. good.gif

*** Thread closed because of its age. ***

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
