"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Just when you think this forum is nothing but negative we get this bit of good news.

How does it make you feel to know that because of Los Mexicanos the Republican Party is going to be an endangered species in a few decades? Well, if they continue to vote for Dems by a 2 to 1 margin.

"A 2008 Census Bureau projection estimated that ethnic and racial minorities will become the majority in the United States by 2050 and that about 1 in 3 U.S. residents will be Hispanic by then."

Here is a chart from the 2010 elections. PS, by 2050 minorities will be the majority. See above, whites will fall from 67% to 47% while Blacks/Latinos combined go from 27% to 42% (throw in Asians to the mix and minorities get to 51%). whistling.gif

It's a regretful feeling yet it may well be a fact of life but ....it's not the first time one ethnic group pushed aside anotherr.......

though it's a little rare that it happens with invitation and subsidization.

On the bright side... Danno gets to say "I told you so".

I don't know how this is a bad thing, the color of your skin/background shouldn't be important in determining your value as a citizen. This country is a country full of immigrants & descendents of immigrants, and IMO that's what makes it unique and great.

I know my kids sure aren't any less American than any white kids... and it shouldn't matter what the color of their skin is anyhow.

BUt you toss out the term "skin color"... as if there are no other differences to note, if so why a "hispanic caucus or Hispanic Music or Hispanic culture or customs?"

Do you seriously believe this country would would be what it is if say, Africans had settled this land, or folks from the Middle east or People from south of the border?

Yeah I know we like to pretend this country is like a stamp collection of people but this place was founded on European ideals and European peoples....

we had laws in place to insure the racial balance stayed that way (until 1965).

It's not that I am trying to discount the societies that other "skin colors" developed at all, but to pretend this country is the result of a -United nations- type immigration just is not true.

Of course we had several minority groups, the largest being of African decent and they are part of our story and individually they made contribution but this country is a CHild of Europe.

Now simple math will demonstrates we are heading towards the multi-race, multi-ethic country you speak of and we shall see if the old "Out of many, one" still applies.

Danno, with all due respect, if this country was founded on European ideals, why were my European immigrant ancestors treated like 2nd class citizens and discriminated against when they emigrated to this country? I think you have a distorted view of the past, as if all the white European immigrants lived in harmony together, sharing American values.

Why have a St. Patrick's day festival then? Or visit Little Italy? My family to this day still celebrates my ancestor's cultures. This doesn't make me any less American now, does it? I don't hear anyone complaining about celebrating these customs, why would celebrating a Latin American custom or holiday be any different?

-I never said we had no conflicts of cultures within the family of European immigration in fact that highlights my point, if people who were fairly similar in many ways had some difficulty in assimilating with and too each other how much more will peeps of huge diverse habbit and nature blend, especially when they are encouraged to maintain their diversity?

-Naturally people, no matter how much alike will want to form even closer associations, these are most often based on place of origin , tradition, Faith or even sports teams, still after the flood gates of immigration where closed some hundred years ago we did seem to meld together into one nation, we, FOR THE MOST PART...shared the same basic faith, we celebrated the same holidays, had the same heros, agreed on what was right and wrong.

No it wasn't a panacea of "brotherly love" without short comings... but it was the recipe which builds a strong national unity.

The truth is the foundations that were laid in this country from the beginning.... insured a "self correcting" of the wrongs we had inherited from history.

Said the guy illegally receiving unemployment benefits

Link explaining how I am illegally receiving unemployment benefits?

I'm pretty sure Gary and myself explained to you before how it works for union construction workers in regards to unemployment after being layed off. It's not my fault you have a reading comprehension problem.

Are you and Gary bf/bf? You sure have been talking about him a lot lately, giving him +1s, and thumbs up to his replies over and over.

It's like you can't go 1 day without praising him in some way.

Merry Christmas

Kip, you know full well that the standard for continuing collecting entitlement benefits is that you are currently looking for employment. You have posted numerous times that you are planning on sitting on your #######, not attempting to find employment because it is easier. I don't have a reading comprehension problem Corky, but you clearly don't know how to read. I don't expect much from you though, considering your history as retold on alaska state websites....
