My fiance is in Kazakhstan and she sent me a one page "Certificate of Divorce" that has been translated and looks quite official with a red ribbon and various seals and stamps. However, I am concerned that it will result in a RFE because it is only a one page certificate and doesn't include any settlement details. Technically, it seems like this should be good enough because the requirement is to prove you are single and free to marry and the certificate does exactly that. I know the best thing would be for her to try to go to the archives and get the expanded version and then include that. But obviously getting that and having it translated and shipped back to me will take quite a while and delay things. So, my question is what are the chances that we will actually get an RFE for this if I send in what we have? I know that has happened to some people, but is there a decent chance they will be satisfied with what we've got? I'd really like to get this submitted now and 'start the clock' on this whole very lengthy process. I figure that once I submit it she can go ahead and get the long form and get it translated and we'll be ready to send it in immediately if necessary for an RFE. Any thoughts on this?

Shouldn't be an issue.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

My official Final Divorce Decree was only one page which is standard issue in my country. It was signed by a judge and carried the official court seal and stamp. This was accepted when we filed (without resulting in an RFE) and at the interview.

Without seeing it, the document you have should be fine.

Certificate of Divorce is what they requested from me. I received an RFE because I sent a copy of my final divorce order.

My wife's divorce decree was also one or two pages. It didn't contain any settlement details also.

Thanks a lot everyone, I really appreciate it! Your answers make me feel a lot better about our chances of avoiding a RFE.

By the way, this website has been super helpful to me as I've tried to get up to speed on the whole complicated process of getting a K1 visa.

Thanks,

Peter
