Applying without a job

My husband will be applying for citizenship in March of next year, but currently has no job. Worst case scenario, if he is still without a job in March, will that affect him being approved for citizenship?

I hope you're correct. Financially we're fine as my salary pays everything. Hopefully, that's enough for them to approve him.

not at all! He should be able to apply without any questions or problems. As long as you marked your IRS forms married and show both names on them....

No problem. I have not had a job since coming to the USA (stay-at-home-mom), and my USC husband has been mostly unemployed for a year. They didn't even ask about jobs at the interview.

Thanks so much for responding. What was your interview like? What do they focus on? Since this is the last step of the immigration process, I just want to get it over and be done with it all.

It was very easy. I wouldn't even really call it an interview, once you have the documents they want (they seemed focused on getting our US born youngest child's birth cert), you will be fine. I wrote about my interview here:

If a job was a requirement to become a U.S. citizen, no rich guys and gals would be able to naturalize.

Stepdaughter applying for the five year, IRS tax returns, whether she was working or not wasn't even an issue. But sure was with my wife for that three year thing, a ton of evidence that we were paying taxes and bills together and shared all of our legally owned assets. Not easy to prove we jointly own our ten buck toaster. Feel they really go way over board on this marriage thing just to gain another couple of years. Isn't our marriage certificate signed by a federal judge enough? But that isn't even required in our state, if a couple hangs out together in a pup tent for over a year, they considered you married, call it a common law marriage. Prenuptial agreements aren't even legal in our state, USCIS doesn't even know or care about that, and it can cost a small fortune to have your spouses name added to those titles or deeds.

Another thing becoming extremely popular in the country is stay at home dads, like three of my neighbors, wives are doctors, husbands have advanced degrees in other sciences, but can't even find work in this country. Could hand out carts at Walmart, but the pay is smaller than what daycare charges nowadays.

Yes, you can file a joint IRS tax return with zero income, but don't have to do that to make the IRS happy, but have to do that to make the USCIS happy
