when my fiance sending me regular letter like birthday cards or christmas cards and parcels he used usps,so i picked it up at post office here in my city,i received it all! but for the important documents i told him to use the best courier and most people said it is fed ex,even if its expensive,well those documents are really important to us so right now im waiting for my documents to arrive here at my place.

The counter part of Fedex 3 day door to door delivery with Philippine Postal service is called "Express Mail" -it has a tracking number and your fiance can get her mail in 3 days too! a few dollar cheaper than FedEx. My hubby made the same mistake with the papers he sent last time despite of my clear instruction to use Fedex ( he went to this establishment that has a sign that says Fedex not knowing that they are actually subcontractor that also handles USPS and UPS), my interview was close then and I went nuts I wanted to scream at him LOL. If that document is important and your lovey is here in Manila I advice her to go to CEMEC,(Main Post Office) that is located near the Domestic Airport, go to SORTER's section and look for mang Ernie.

TIPS: Don't let her talk to people at the office they wont help u if your mail is not Express or of no tracking number. Sorters will literally dig up your mail out of hundreds sacks of mails from US. Yes! Such a pain!So I advice to give few peso reward to whoever can find it and OH! I actually do have Mang Ernie's mobile number in case she need it! :D

People.. use DHL

It's the best worldwide courier service. It's expensive most reliable, but, then again, you are sponsoring your future spouse. I think it's worth it.

I would never dream of sending important documents using a government postal service.

You have to break it down to what you are sending.

Is it an item or papers?

Can it be replaced?

Can it be a copy or is it a signed original?

============

Papers:

Can NOT be replaced:

Use FedEx or DHL, It’s not cheap but you only have one chance.

============

Paper

CAN be replaced

Original SIGNED documents.

Urgent (need ASAP),

Sign 3 and Send 2 USPS Express mail it has tracking. They as fast or faster then FedEX and much cheeper. At the price you can send twice and still save money. Send 1 standard USPS First class mail. Its only $0.98 so why not. I have not lost any USPS mail yet and a first class letter can get there in as little as 2 weeks.

============

Paper

CAN be replaced

Original SIGNED documents.

NOT Urgent,,

Sign 3 and Send 1 at a time. First one via USPS First class mail first. Wait 3 weeks, Second one via USPS Express Mail (INSURED), wait 2 weeks, Third one via FedEx or DHL and use the insurance claim to pay for the expensive shipping.

============

Paper

CAN be replaced

NOT original documents (can be coppied)

Send electronic. Of the over 6 pounds of documents ond pics that were taken to the interview there were only a small hand full that were not sent this way.

This can be email attachment but some email services have limits on attachment file size.

There are also free online file sharing services like Google documents. That’s what I used. I can upload here in USA and we both can see them online.. All she needs is internet and browser to view and organize. She can print directly at the internet café or download and save as PDF to flash memory. Any good office print shop and most internet café should be able to print from a USB flash memory.

============

Item:

Can NOT be replaced.

If you must send it use FedEx or DHL, but you really should just fly over and take it with you.

============

Item:

Can be replaced

Use USPS Express Mail, BUT insure it

FEDEX is safer I'm sure but we have used USPS for normal letters , small gifts etc just regular usps mail and only lost an xmas card From PH to US. takes about 3 weeks. If I need it faster or more important I still use USPS but express and its about 9 - 10 business days. you can track that but be advised it is only trackable in US once it gets to the Philippines all bets are off. But in 3 years we lost just the one card. Jim.

Hi,

I have the same issue. My fiance lives in Afghanistan and I just started filling out the petition for him. The address where he lives they dont receive any mails to their homes becuase the address for most of the areas are not like the USA. There the houses are not numbered and no zip code ofcourse again MOST OF THE PLACES NOT ALL. I dont see any area on the forms to allow me add his dad or his work address for receiving mail( no alternative options for mailing). What to do? I can send him the important paperwork for his interview when that time comes via FedEx, but I am worried about the interview letter that the embassy will send him. Pleae guide me what should I do? Anyone who have filed for their fiance to Afghanistan what have you guys done? I am so lost. I called the immigration services and they werent helpful. They didnt give me a solid and reasonable answer. Please help me. :(

It's gonna cost you a fortune shipping docs to Afghanistan, but, it's only the best service available.

A lot of places in the world have unrelaible postal service. I lived in Ukraine for 2 years and will NEVER complain about the US Postal Service ever again. EVER.

Anything we send to Ukraine or Russia goes by Fedex for station pickup.

I was in Bacolod and this are what we used:

Phils to US - PhilPost (takes 1-2months for letters/cards unless Special Delivery it takes 3 weeks)

FEDEX - for important documents, can be tracked online, 3-5 business days, expensive (about P1500++)

US - Phils - Fedex - for important documents 3-5 days too!

USPS - he used to send gifts one time but he swore not to use em again. I had to pick them up at the post office and it was hard to track.

In short we relied on Fedex.
