Ok it is time to book my fiance' flight from Manila to the US (Seattle). The good news is she is on her way to pick up her visa right now from 2Go. Very Very Excited!!! A sweatheart (who will remain nameless ;) ;) ) doesn't believe me when I tell her about immigrant discounts from airlines. Can someone please respond to the following?:

Is there a first time immigrant discount from airlines?

Which airlines have this discount?

Do you have to go through a travel agent or through the airline?

Can I pay for it or does my fiance' have to pay for it (I will be sending her the money)?

Also just a side question, what airline(s) do you prefer to and from Manila? I have flown there on Delta and Korean Air. I prefered Korean Air but thier flight are so expensive right now. Delta seemed to have an outdated plane.

Thanks all, VJ has been great and I can't wait for my love and her son to get here!!!!!

1.. LOL>> no.. can you imagine how airlines would figure out who first time immigrants were.. lol

2. i just googled it.. does not seem to happen

3. use orbitz, kayak, expedia, priceline.. compare them all.. but they all tend to have pretty much same price.. change the dates to get better prices.. real quick search on Kayak for one way nov 1.. $683 continental airlines

4. you should be able to pay for your fiance but you would need to make sure her passport name and name on ticket are exactly the same.. less trouble..

5.. good luck.. congrats!

When my fiancee was checking flights at the Cebu travel agencies for MNL to ATL, the pattern for the "Immigration Specials" were; very few available seats, 1+month leadway, many stops, multiple carriers, and not really cheap. I got Delta for her and my stepdaughter under 2K with stops in NRT, and POE in MSP, then on to ATL.

Delta currently has $760.00pp from MNL to SEA on 10/22. Only stop is NRT which is normal for Delta. Better book that one quick!!!

PS: I booked online using my CC. You will have to go to the airport and present your CC at the counter so they can remove the "inhibitor" from the reservation. They will not accept a copy of your CC in MNL at check-in. But this is a minor inconvenience.

J&C...SkipTex has a great fare, but in IMHO it's not worth the savings. Its 31+hours, 3 stops. The Delta flight (and no I don't work for Delta) is 16 hours, 1 stop. Also, be careful going through Guam...then on to a different country i.e. Japan for that fare. I have heard some have had trouble in Guam because it is a US island and could be considered POE. Then you cant leave Guam and go to Japan if that's the case. But I'm not sure about that.

There actually are first time immigrant discounts. I think they are through travel agents.

Here's another link you can check. St. Raphael

I was able to find a decent rate on Expedia and we chose that, so I can't really give you much more information.

I don't know if you are joking or not, but I agree with you! Why do a certain amount of petitioners act like it's all macdaddy dandy and then try and get cheap after the approval is in the bag-- or their beloved is on US soil? I've seen numerous posts ( not just here) about trying to claim immigration expenses on taxes, stopping money getting sent back home, teaching fiscal ' lessons' , applying for benefits for their spouse..... etc etc etc.

So you are right. Don't get cheap now!

IK HOU VAN JOU, MARK

.png

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!
