If you can get both parents and friends who know about the relationship to write an affidavit and notarize it..i believe it is good..if there is receipt of fund transfer from the USC to the beneficiary...and emails put them together and send it over...it proves the uniqueness of your relationship.

I don't know about the fund transfers because it can be misconstrued as something else as well.

However, I certainly agree that "letter of intent" from both the parents stating what kind of engagement (verbal) you guys have gone through and what their views are on a formal ceremony for the engagement and the wedding in the states would be a plus.

Also, I noticed that you've joined quite a while back.

Please update your timeline so that as much as others try to help you, others can benefit from your experience as well.

For instance, it would be good to know what embassy your fiance had the interview at: Mumbai or Delhi or Chennai?

Thanks and hope things move positively from now on.

EDIT: Seems you posted before I posted, now i Know which embassy. Thanks.

Hr8687, Do you have the Dept of state phone number here in America? I sent all my documents today, so we should be able to submit soon & I want to be able to check!!

Lynn n Sam - I am American, he is Indian. It was at the New Delhi embassy.

There you go that is why this happened to you. You are a white American female (no Indian background) who fell in love with an Indian, they generally are tough in terms of proof when this happens from reading threads on VJ, especially in Middle Eastern and Pakistani countries as well as India. I guess Some of these consulates have a hard time accepting interracial relationships.

Splendid.

I think the advice here from the folks, especially Gary & Alla is really sound. As long as you're doing what they [Consulate] want by providing them with what they want, you should be fine.

Goodluck.

Any suggestions for some unique proof of relationship? We've submitted photos, notarized documents about engagement, notarized documents from our parents, letters, cards, call records, etc...anything you guys can think of that would really stand out??

And, @Persepolis, I think you may be right. Hopefully all the extra stuff we are submitting removes all doubt

Not sure if she said she is white! She only said American. As in citizen of United States. Or atleast thats what I interpreted it to mean.

Electric86: Are you not of Indian descent? If not, then what Persepolis said is very true. There is a lot of scrutiny on interracial marriages, especially coming from the New Delhi Consulate.

I'm not Indian, no. I do think that this obstacle is able to be overcome, though, surely we aren't the first white-Indian couple they've seen...

Right, you should be okay. I don't see any reason for them denying anything after what you're submitting to them.

Goodluck.

My fiancee went through the same thing at the New Delhi embassy for the K1 visa, but got the visa after she submitted the documents, she was issued a white 221g that submit more documents, I believe they asked for seven items on the paper. You must have affidavits from your fiancees family in India stating the engagement took place and that they approve of her relationship with you, also that they have no objections that your fiancee will marry you in the US and not in India. Your parents here in the US must write a letter and get it notarized, the letter must state that your parents agree with your relationship and acknowledge that you were engaged. You need a fiance letter of intent for yourself and foreign fiancee which states you will marry each other within 90 days of entering the United States, you need voters list for the last 5 years and voter Id card, you need engagement photo album, phone records, emails, any mail you sent one another. I know for a fact that the new Delhi embassy gives a huge problem to K1 filers if they did not have a proper engagement ceremony in India. You will definitely need a guest list with names and phone numbers. If you did not have a ceremony then both you and your foreign fiancee need to explain that in writing and get it notarized. Also you need a letter that explains how you met and why you decided to get engaged, your foreign fiancee will need to do the same, and it has to be notarized, for the letter write as much detail as you can and express your feelings for one another, I did all this and my fiancees visa was pproved 3 days after we submitted all the information. Also do you have the State department phone number here in America, because after you submit all this you can call that number give them your case number abd they can tell you if the visa was issued.

Hey, can you send me the format of notorization of not having enagagement ceremony.

Thanks,

Why is Delhi so concerned with an engagement ceremony, I've never even heard of one? Is an engagement ceremony expected in India? Can it be something small, just fiances immediate family? Thanks!

Give them the certified affidavits of parents both sides. Also children if any, brothers, sisters. This is a good way of proving a relationship. I included this and had no problem. Of course, also phone msgs, emails, photos screenshots, skype chats. I do believe that the affidavits are the best source of proving a relationship. Good Luck!!

@Crazyaboutyou - We just wrote out a personal statement. There isn't like a government form that you fill out. We wrote out that we are engaged, have our families' blessing, etc, but didnt have an engagement ceremony for reason a, b, & c, etc. Pretty basic & straightforward.

@Kim n Jai - Yes, nearly everyone has an engagement ceremony, from what I've heard. Its mostly for photos and exchanging rings, etc. Lots of formality but it's tradition. I am not Indian but this is what Ive been told. We personally decided just to have an engagement party when my fiance gets to the USA.

And, @Ludyous, I hope you're right!! I will keep you all updated!!
