Interview was originally scheduled for May 1st, but due to problems obtaining a passport from the Jaipur passport office it had to be rescheduled.

Consulate Review: New Delhi, India
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : July 21, 2012
Embassy Review : We arrived at the embassy around 7:15 and they let us in at about 7:45. We were given a number and told to wait until the number was called. Several times we were called to the window to organize documents prior to the actual interview. I was allowed to join Jai at the window where documents were collected/organized prior to the interview, but not allowed to the interview window.

We were unable to submit packet 4 seven days prior to the interview as Jai arrived at VFS to submit in on the last day, waited for hours, and they closed for the day before calling his number. So when we were called to the window we tried to give them packet 4, but they did not take it. Instead they went through it and pulled out only the birth certificate, police report, 2011 taxes, and my employer letter. We had spent an additional 6 months together subsequent to our initial filing of K1 (after 3 months together), and had photo documentation, my passport stamps, etc., but they didn't take any of it. This made me nervous so when we went to VFS later that day I asked if I could submit the packet 4 documents and was told that is wasn't necessary as they had made a decision without them.

Here is Jai's recount of his interview:

What is your name?

What is your girlfriends name? (the interviewer was switching between calling me his girlfriend and his fiance.)

How did you meet? On the street, she was looking for a guesthouse.

How much time did you spend together before getting engaged? 3 months

What does your girlfriend do? She's a scientist and teacher at a university

Where does she work? online

Where does she live? xx state

You have a big age difference, how do you feel about that? Age doesn’t matter, I just love her.

Does your family know about your relationship? Yes

Do they accept it? Before they liked her a lot, but after finding out her age not so much. (We have a 19 year age difference)

Your fiancé is an Amercian citizen, will you live in America? Yes, but like many Indians I will visit India regularly.

Will your family live in the US? No, of course not, because they don’t accept the relationship, but in the future I don’t know.

Do you know anything about your girlfriends family? She has a mother, father, and a one brother.

Do you know where her family lives? No

What does her father do? He is a retired XX

When did you meet? Feb 20th, 2011

Sounds good, everything is perfect, but your medical. (medical report was not available until 2 pm that afternoon). We were issued 221 G contingent up their receipt of the medical report.

Jai can not stop talking about how much he liked the interviewer and how comfortable he made him feel by joking around with him. He was a tall, bald American.

Though the cashier window has a sign for visa and master card and the Delhi Embassy website says the interview fee can be paid by credit card, the cashier informed me that he could not take a credit card "for this amount". If that means the amount is too low or too high I don't know. So we paid in cash $240 USD.

We were at the embassy for a few hours, but the interview itself lasted about 10 minutes.

I'm giving this a 5 because the interviewer was so kind, but we had problems similar to the previous Delhi interview review with VFS. Many times through this process I tried contacting them with questions or requests for assistance and most of the time received a useless generic response. A few times, however, I was surprised with solid information, such as our interview date. Though email responses were better than phone responses, which were of no use at all.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
