Hey everyone!

Thanks for taking the time to read my question.

I understand that my husband and i will have to get our marriage certificate translated from Spanish to English. I was wondering where in Omaha Nebraska can i get it translated. Like what type of places. Is there a certain business that's nationwide? Any suggestions? Sorry if it doesn't make sense.

Hi Angelique,

If you want to find a translator in Omaha Nebraska, two strategies you might try:

1) Go on google maps and type in "translation service" or "certified translation" and then "omaha, ne" - google maps is pretty good at finding local businesses

2) Another resource is going to the Nebraska Translator Association (http://www.natihq.org/), they'll have a listing of local professionals.

If you want to try a nationwide service, there a ton of online options.

If I could recommend a service, try FoxTranslate (www.foxtranslate.com) - Disclaimer, I work there. For a marriage certificate from Spanish to English

- We charge just $29

- Turnaround time will be less than 24 hours

- Documents are guaranteed accepted by all U.S. authorities

Good luck to you!

- Jason

You don't need to use a service to translate your documents. I used someone I know who speaks Spanish and had them sign the sample provided on VJ in the guides that states that they know and understand both English and Spanish. I had no issues with the USCIS or NVC when it came to them accepting my translations.

Absolutely no reason to use a professional translator. If you don't know anyone who speaks Spanish, call the high school and ask to speak to one of the Spanish teachers.

Use this for your translations, but have a friend certify it, not a family member,

There is absolutely no problem using a family member--all that is required is that person doing the translation certify using the form provided above

What about doing it yourself? Is it ok or do you have a risk of it being rejected?

There have been several people here who did it themselves with no problems, but we don't really know the risk of rejection. No one here has said that they did it themselves and was rejected, so we just don't know for sure.

I recommend that petitioners capable of doing the translation themselves, go ahead and do the work, then have a capable friend proof read it and sign the certification. It's just less imposition on the friend that way,.

The beneficiary's birth certificate is not needed at the petition stage. When it IS needed, whether a translation is needed will depend on the country. For most, no translation of beneficiary birth certificate is needed. For China, it is.

Glad I came across this thread; I think I'll go ahead and do the translation of our marriage certificate myself since I'm more than capable :D Anyone have a link to the aforementioned VJ Sample?

Just copy and paste what A16!!24A posted, as that's exactly what was provided in the VJ guide. That's also what I used with no problems.
