I am preparing for the DS-230. My Husband birth certificate and police report is in Turkish. He asked me if I wanted his documents to be translate in English, but the translation will be done in Turkey. He will be sending me the original birth certificate and police report but also the translation in English notarized by a translator there Should I let him do the translation and notarization paper (turkish to English)in Turkey or should I do it here since there is cheaper. it is OK for the NVC. I like the idea. Thanks in advance

Even you can do the translation and sign it, so getting translation doen in Turkey should be fine.

The Turkish consulate states that if documents submitted are in English or Turkish no translation is necessary. Only Iranian applications taken at Ankara need translation. Or if you were born in a country that does not speak Turkish or English.

Yes, translation is needed if evrything is in Turkish and not if it is in bi-lingual with english as the other language. I have bi-lingual DOB in both english and my language and we didn't need translation.

This is for K-1 Instructions...but your visa has similar requirements. Look at #11. http://turkey.usemba...ions_052011.pdf No translation required if in Turkish or English.

I see it - am not sure if CR1 gets covered under these K1 instrauctions or not. It is safer to translate self and sign the translation.

I myself had all the documents translated. However, after speaking with the consulate via email, they told me that translations are only required when a language other than Turkish. If you still want to get them translated, you do not need to have it notarized, just a declaration from the person translating that they speak both languages fluently.

Ok guys. K-1 visa may not need translation because the documents are required to be submitted at the Consulate. I think for CR1, you need to get the translation done if you don't want a RFE from NVC. Since it is cheaper to get it done in Turkey, go for it or if you have the apostille, then you can do it (we too have some stamp paper in India, which we use and sign and get it notarized).

But remember NVC requires translation.

If it were me, I'd submit the translations and the originals to the NVC as they request. The apostille translations should be good enough for them. If you have any doubts, then without hesitation call NVC tomorrow for clarification and peace of mind. It's confusing here when you get contradictory advice so when in doubt, call!

Sorry I'm not more help!
