Hey everyone! We are new to VJ, so I'll start with a little bit of background info. I'm from Arkansas, and I met my Canadian fiancee online in November of 2010. We fell in love almost instantly and knew we wanted to be together forever! We hired RapidVisa to help us with the K1 process. Our packet was received at Vermont Service Center on June 10, and we are still waiting for NOA2. The people at RapidVisa told us from the beginning that this entire process takes 4-6 months. That is from the time the servicing center receives the packet until the interview time. Montreal will be his interview location. We have been reading some accounts on VJ that really vary from that timeline we were given. We would love to hear from all the Canadians who have gone, or are still going through the K1 process. Thanks for all of your help:)

Good luck with that. You used a liar company.

Montreal is taking AGES to book interviews, some people have waited well over a month just to book an interview.

The process with USCIS alone is 5-6 months just for an approval and then you have to wait for nvc and then you have to wait for Montreal which is slow and horrible as all get out! Montreal is not reliable for mailing or contacting.

Head over to the Canada section and you will see many many posts on issues with Montreal booking appointments and trying to get the visas back from them.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Regardless of country, the USCIS potion is taking about 5-6 months. After that you have to deal with NVC and the embassy. They lied.

Either they lied to you or you misunderstood what they were talking about.

NOA1 - NOA2 is about 4-6 months. Not the entire process.

Then you get the pleasure of dealing with the Montreal consulate where it takes forever for them to receive/process paperwork and then waiting to book an interview. From NOA2 to interview, for me, was another 4 months on top of the 5 I waited for the NOA2.

I think a lot of these companies use numbers from a few years ago when things seemed to go a lot faster and I also think they confuse people who are not familiar with the process and just give the times that it will take just for the USCIS approval. The USCIS approval can take up to six months, but the entire process from start to getting your loved one here in the states takes about 6 - 9 months.

I used Rapid Visa and it states that the wait time between NOA1 and Noa2 is 3-5 and most are approved in less than 6 months not the whole process.

Thanks for your response, however, I emailed Ben about this. His response to me was "I have never heard of anyone waiting for an interview longer than 2 months. What you read online is only from people that have problems with the process." I guess I was just hoping he was right :(

I know-what we read on the Canada threads prompted us to start questioning.

Check everyone's timelines for more info... mine is a little messed up, ignore the filed in January and filed in March, as we didn't even get an NOA1 until May, but from there, you can see that the suggested 4-6 months is a little off, us being at 7 months. Now go back to when we actually filed... not so good then... Mind you, we got really really lucky with our interiew date, others that were "approved" at the USCIS portion before me are still waiting...

All you really need to know at this point in the game is patience. It will be your saving grace... In the meantime, read the threads and find out a what point you can ditch the lawyer and do the rest on your own. Might as well save some money...

Check out the Canada forum and check out the timelines there. Have your fiance do the same thing. Montreal has long periods of time where no interviews are available to book.

There is a fairly new thread in the Canada forum regarding the K1 process and Montreal and the procedures. Forum Link I have read stories in the Embassy Reviews of people with lawyers coming totally unprepared for the interviews and too where the paperwork taking a while to get filed. I think you would do very well following the thread and ditching the middle man both time-wise and monetarily.

Best of Luck whatever you decide and I hope you have a speedy journey.

The people on VJ are currently in the process. The other information is a guess. Being from Canada will not affect the time your petition is approved in but it will affect the interview time.
