Fatima and I are into some unexpected financial trouble, and it may be a while before we have the $1000 or so to file for AOS.

What are the ramifications of having to wait to file the AOS packet? (K-1 expired in August, we did get married in July)

Also -- can work and travel permits be filed separately, and what are the ramifications of that?

Thanks for any help you can give!

She can't work or leave the country (she can leave but can't come back) without AOS - there is no stop-gap work permission or anything like that. There is no penalty for late filing per se, but if you borrow money, with even part time work, she can pay back the fee once she gets her work permission. Also, filing late delays her citizenship clock if that is something you are looking for eventually. Good luck.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!
