Proof of citizenship

Hi,

If I am to use my U.S. passport as proof of citizenship, do I send a copy of the bio page only or the entire passport? I am hesitant to use my birth certificate only because I recently had it corrected and the correction mite trigger an RFE (basically my name was spelled wrong and they just drew a line over it and wrote the corrected version above.) Not sure if that would be a problem. Thanks!

As proof of citizenship for an I-130 petition, you must send a copy of the entire passport.

I had sort of the same problem because I had them correct something on my birth certificate when I got my copy for my passport.

I copied the entire passport including front cover to back. Because I used the inner pages it is stamped showing I went to and exited Norway for proof of being there and meeting my fiance). When you type out your cover page have it refer to the copies of your passport you included.

This way it serves a dual purpose. Shows your citizenship AND visitation to your fiance.

As proof of citizenship for an I-130 petition, you must send a copy of the entire passport, as proof of citizenship.

Definitely a copy of the entire passport, every page front and back. The birth certificate sounds sketchy...I wouldn't even chance it.

Why get a needless RFE for the copies of the passport pages? Just to save a few cents on copies?

You also need to think about the fact that the rest of the passport pages would also show the passport stamps which would then be useful to show the petitioner's visits to the beneficiary's country. A full set of copies of a passport can serve a dual purpose; citizenship and a bona fide relationship.

Your advice is 100% right. I called and spoke to someone directly about this and was told all pages of the passport front and back. No exceptions. Send only the Bio page is pointless.

The other commenters are right. you have to send in copies of ALL pages of your US passport, even blank pages.

Because unless they see the actual copy of the blank pages, how do they know those missing pages are blank? You might have omitted one page which might contain a stamp from a foreign government that you were granted a foreign citizenship, or that a page which would have revoked your entire passport. And all that.

USCIS said it clearly send the copy of your entire US passport, so give them that.

It's not bad. What I did is I open each page to scan each two opened pages into one color image. Then two of these color images can be fit neatly onto one page using MS Word. This way each printed page can contain copies of 4 pages from your US passport. You only need 7 sheets of paper to print the copies of all pages of your US passport. If you print on both sides of the paper, you only need 4 sheets of paper.

I did the same. Except that on the USCIS web page they say you have to copy both the front and the back of the Naturalization Certificate. There is nothing but white space on the back of my Naturalization Certificate. It would seem lame sending in a blank sheet of paper and call it the copy of the back of my Naturalization Certificate. So I did not do it. LOL. Maybe newer Naturalization Certificates look different and have some stuff on the back side?

As others have already pointed out, if you are going to use your passport as proof of citizenship, ALL pages must be copied, including the front and back covers.
